Hmmm... didn't even know LG made one! Cool! I have 2 Philips 642 players and they are very good imho. If you give this a go... post a review!

LG DivX DVD Player
I'm looking for a DVD player capable of playing DivX/XviD and I saw an LG one selling for $90 at Future Shop
LG LDA-530 http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...1&newdeptid=11
Does anyone have this player and knows if it's any good?

I've done some research, apparently LG makes pretty good Divx players with good subtitle support and they can be modified regionless, this is their first Divx player in the North American market.
Upon further diggings, this model looks exactly the same as the DV9923N available in the Taiwanese market (picture here: http://tw.lge.com/multiimagedisplay....isplay=DV9923N )
I had avoided buying the Philips due to the lack of proper subtitle support. This looks very intriguing.
I hope somebody can provide some feedbacks on this player.

I'm looking for another DIVX player. Don't suppose anyone can tell me if this player is any different from the Phillips? I'm kinda waiting for the LG to be on sale before I grab one.

May 11th, 2005 12:37 PM #6Somebody already invented one; it's called a laptop!what i want is an RMVB PLAYER! damn...someone invent one alreadY!
I've been just downloading them onto the laptop and output it to the TV and watch it that way; it's been good so far!
As for the LG, I am guessing this player might be better than the Philips (but then again, you are hearing this from somebody who doesn't own a Philips). After all, the Philips has been out for a while and this LG is brand new.
If anybody bought one, I'd appreciate a review!

May 13th, 2005 07:35 PM #8Some of the PVP's on the market say they can support Real Media (not sure if it's audio or video or both tho) and they do have TV out.

No chapters. Can't make them. It's like a 8 character limited MP3 menu with two rows.

What I want to know is if this LG doesn't cut the edges of the screen off making it hard to read subtitles at the bottom.

I don't know if it does cut the same as the philips 642. But it cut the edges so the sub is near the edge. When I play on my computer ,there's still space left underneath the sub

that cutting off is because regular, non-flat screen tv's are overscanning... the liteon lvd-2002 suffers this problem, but can be fixed via zoom control.. the philips dvp-642 overscans properly, but can't adjust like the liteon can...
flatscreen should be fine afaik.. looks fine on my bro's projector
