[Lightspeed]B.C. & A.B. Internet 120/10-$59.95, 30/5 $39.95 unlimited, no contract

Deal Link:
Price:
$69.90/Mon
I'm currently on the 30/5Mbps plan with Lightspeed and was browsing their site to see if they had any promos going on.
They are currently offering their 120/10 cable unlimited plan for $64.95 + $4.95 Network access fee= $69.90+ Tax.

*They've updated their prices. $39.95 +Tax for 30/5 seems like a good deal.
*Looks like they've gotten rid of their network access fee. 120/10 is now $59.95 + Tax
* 60/6 plan is now $49.95 +Tax

For their ADSL: you need to be within 4400 meters of a Telus ADSL hub (total line length, not line of sight) and have a Telus line to your home (does not need to be connected) to be able to get this
For their Cable: you need to have access to Shaw cable (does not have to be connected) in order to be able to get their Cable Internet.

I'm not 100% sure, but my android box It shows I used 530 GB in Dec. I probably use about 700-800 GB a month on average.

All these internet deals make me cry. In SK, we only have 2 providers. I pay $65 plus tax for 20/2.
100/5 mbit internet is $110 a month here.

There's benefits to it. First is the reduced rate. Also a modem is included in the price, they let you move every 2 years without charge and they give you a loyalty discount which grows every year.

I use 500-600 Gb typically. That includes a lot of netflix, youtube and torrents. I had almost 1 TB last month. Probably, because of holidays

nobody knows where telus hub located. And 4400 meters gives you 4 mbps line speed. You need around 1km if you want at least 20 mbps.

Dang, that'd be decent. I'm in northern Alberta, and only have access to 6/1 from Telus. I'm paying $60+ for that, with unlimited. Telus is the only provider in the area as well.

I have been with Can Com for about 7 months now and no complaints. They also have a referral program if you send your friends and family their way.

That's still less than I pay with Shaw for my 100/5...

I'm only staying because I want a tier 1 provider in case something goes wrong.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

I had Lightspeed (bonded DSL) in Vancouver last year. It wasn't necessarily a pleasant experience:

- I experienced regularly occurring outages, at least every other month, lasting usually several days. The modem would lose sync, usually on a Friday afternoon and wouldn't be fixed until Monday. Technically not Lightspeed's fault as they don't own the infrastructure (Telus playing games with wholesalers?), but as a client, it was still a huge frustration.
- Bought the modem, thinking originally it was going to be a pleasant ride. Set me back $200, I am still stuck with it. BTW, anyone interested in a barely used SmartRG SR552N?
- Low quality routing. I had connections to Eastern Canada and Europe. Bandwidth and latency were quite bad. This was an even huger source of frustration, as it was a constant bothering.
- Slow DNS resolution as they don't have their own DNS and rely on Google's DNS servers.

I since switched to Telus. I managed to get a very good price, about 30% cheaper than what Lightspeed used to cost me. Much better routing, free modem and no outages. My advice: know your wholesaler, There are some top quality wholesale ISP's out there, Lightspeed is just not one of them.

Isn't the issue with resellers tight margins with a highly price sensitive customer based? This is a recipe for poor and unreliable service. You get what you pay for.

I had a lot of problems with their DSL service (super long latency and slow speeds). Switched to their cable service and no issues. Would avoid their DSL.

Hmm, that's kind of what I figured, I know it's only in some areas but my Telus Fibre 250/250 is a better deal, imo. Unless you are regularly going over 1 TB.

The Telus "dry loop fee" is a legit separate cost because it's directly passed through from Telus, and you don't pay it if you have Telus analog phone service. In ancient times a lot of people did have analog phone service, and a few such customers are still around. :)

The "Network Access Fee" on cable is as bogus as the old "System Access Fee" on cell phone service. It's just a deceptive way to split out part of the cost and advertise a lower fee.
