Living at work, have you done it? thought about doing it ?
Anyone ever consider doing it? I really want to but am not sure how to approach it. Some background info:
I live in a major city and work in a rural area an hour and half from where I live. Right now I rent a bedroom 4 nights a week to minimize driving, it's roughly the same cost as it would be to just drive. I like my job and would like to stay but I really hate living with people and also hate the idea of driving 3 hrs a day. I also don't like the extra cost of either option and permanently moving there is not an option.
The building is located at the rear of an industrial park with woods behind it, and so I was thinking I could just park a small RV or camper trailer at the rear and live there during the week. I don't cook much so that isn't a problem and we have showers at work.
I am wondering how to broach the subject though, or if this idea is totally out of line.... I am also unsure who the appropriate person would be to ask, (my employer or the property owner that our company leases from).
opinions?

I've heard of people sleeping under their desks for those unpaid internships (such as Bell), because they can't afford a place to live, but never heard of living in a trailer outside of your work.
I imagine you would want electricity and plumbing, so those are going to be your two biggest obstacles.

Never met or saw the person, but there is a guy who did just that at my school.
I would see his mini-RV parked just off campus at night with the heater humming along inside when it was cold.
And then on campus during the day in the parking lot near the gym probably for easy shower access.
Very likely a student from out of town or maybe even a faculty member?
I thought it was pretty neat and a good way to save money.
Isn't that what everybody up north in Fort McMurray are doing?

I had a friend who had a pop up trailer and lived behind his college for a year, he said it was much cheaper than renting a room or house. The college was up at North Bay and I imagine it was really cold during the winter.
Depending on the size of your company, someone might let you room and board with them.

Now for a more adult response....you're in Ottawa, so i'm assuming the area is probably pembroke or around there? The camper idea isn't too bad, probably the only way for you to maintain employment there. Unfortunately, I would think management might frown upon that, is it possible you can just move it out of sight? I would think as long as it's not on anyone's property there wouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, they start at like $250 on CL. Some can even be had for a 24 of beer!
