Using cash to buy gift cards you lose out on points from credit cards.
It's not exactly double dipping since you would pay with the card anyways. The only advantage is the 5% plus anything extra from buying at a grocery store vs gas station.

Loblaws doesn't accept Amex, while some Scotia bank credit cards are Amex branded.

Is superstore and t&t in the tangerine grocery category? That would be 4%.

Picked up 4 cards at Loblaws, paid with Scotia Momentum Infinite.

(4cards * 50$ per card) at 5% off = 190 minus 4% cashback = $182.40 for 200$ worth of gas.

Past statements show Loblaws as a grocery store purchase so the cashback will come through. Also going to swipe aeroplan card when redeeming.

8.8% off on gas (or simply 5% since I use my Momentum anyways) that I was going to have to buy anyways - not too shabby. 8.8% is almost 9cents per lite at the current price here in Ottawa. May pick up a few more.

Thanks OP.

Well, they made that up because you can pay however you want (accept the CC restrictions like no Visa at No Frills).

At britannia and creditview , 2 petro canada stations drops their price by 5 - 6 cents. I don't see nearby esso drop their price. I think I will stick to petro canada.

Quadruple dip.... don't forget to use your Esso Points card when using the esso gift card. And use the Esso 2.5cents off per litre card.

Just been to a No Frills on Avenue Rd. in Toronto. No sign of lower price anywhere and after scanning a $50 card was, surprisingly, $50.

There is no point in buying the $50 card without the paper coupon. From other posts, it is clearly not an automatic 5% off.

I need at least 10% off to make gift card purchases worthwhile; even for gas. Sometimes, you can see 5% differences within stations /or even time of the day. Anyone remember that couple of years ago gas station would drop the price by 5-10 cents in the evening.
