So, where can I find a good deal on Medeco or Schlage primus ?

I'm definitely putting that on my new house.

or it could be local neighbourhood locksmith, who would be more than eager to contribute to mass panic and a mass stampede in changing locks. ;)

Locks can be picked or bumped. It's a fun hobby and now a big sport at several trade shows.

Alarm systems can also be easily bypassed, especially in new houses.

Cameras are good when the intruders know they are there.

Your best deterant is a dog and neighbours who know you.

I don't think we're talking about a squad a green beret's here... more like a crackhead or some punk kid. Even with a baseball bat and a taser my money's on doggie.

Some specialised keys cost that much or even more.

I am curious ... generically speaking, how do you bypass an alarm system?

I'm not a thief or an expert bu there's how I'd do it: Once inside the house (after bumping the lock...), go immediately to the basement, find the panel and rip the phone cord off. Cut the other wires so that the other alarm doesn't ring. Bingo, you haven't been noticed.

interesting

reminds me of the, "Unlocks Your Car Using A Tennis Ball" ..... wonder if that special key would work for cars .....

i know some condominiums with specialized keys that are ridiciously expensive to replace (with microchips or something) ..... yet i guess that would help to prevent these kinds of lock bumpings too

That is if you don't get noticed by the nosey neighbours next door, or get eaten alive by the 100 lb rottweiler, or the guy who had a bad day at work, and can't wait to bash your head in with a bat and a 20 000 V tazer?

Well... I guess then the alarm would be your next hurdle to overcome. ;)

I guess you haven't seen my 70lb boxer chasing down a rabbit and ripping it to shreds.

Tip: Your throat doesn't move nearly as fast and it isn't covered in fur.

GL hitting him with a bat too, I play games to test his agility every couple of days and he can move his front paws out of the way of any incoming object with a toy in his mouth being pulled on.

Not saying you don't have any chance, but a 70lb boxer racing at you with a freakin' deep bark is pretty intimidating and if I hear him going insane I'm there pretty quickly to check it out.

Edit: If anybody ever broke into my house and hurt my dog I'd probably flip out on them. I'm not the strongest guy ever but I know I could you up if I had to.

I have successfully done this a few times. I locked my keys in a room and they were the only keys that could open the door. Jumped online found this out and did it.

Oh, bump keys are code 9-9-9. If you go to any locksmith and ask for this they won't do it.

ahhh ... maybe not ... you have 10 seconds once you open my door to disasm the system or the alarm goes off.

To get to the panel you would have to move ALL the stuff that is sitting in front of the locked door behind which is the locked panel affixed to 3/4" plywood. I can't do it in 10 seconds and I know which door and have the keys to both.

thats how much they charge the company i work with for their locks. if a supervisor loses or even misplaces their keys. the locksmith is there within an hour and all the locks get changed.

keys are $50 a piece and they gaurentee that the keys can not be copied. for people who dont know, the keys are bigger than the average key.

Nice installation.. but with the 10 seconds, I suppose that means you don't have young kids, right? With a 2 year old son in the winter, it takes more than that just to get him through the door!
