London Drugs started charging 5c for plastic bags

I had no idea London Drugs started charging for plastic bags at the start of January 2018. Cashier did not tell me about the charge when she asked if I wanted a bag. Apparently there are floor signs, but I haven't noticed. Also haven't noticed signs at the cash register. Where are they? Geez, why didn't someone on RFD make a thread about this earlier so that I would have known?

I just moved to a western province in December and I even knew about their 5 cent a bag policy. I am always asked if I want a bag and the cost if I do.

You must not have been paying close enough attention.

Yes, they started this year.
Onside note, bag quality is way better than wal mart

Why don't you just assume everyone charges 5cents now.

Pretty sure it has something to do with landfills.

Might have had something to do with Victoria "banning" plastic bags. Doesn't look good to charge 5c in one city, but not another.

LD Extras had a coupon for a free bag, although it wasn't advertised. Expired in late January. 99c now. Their bags are actually pretty good. Quite spacious.

Giant tiger also started charging. I believe they still give you a discount if you bring your reusable.

Isn't there a quid pro quo with free bags? The store gets free advertising/brand recognition, whether it's reusable or plastic, and the customer gets convenience. If I am paying for a plastic or reusable bag (which usually is never), I would prefer a plain or unbranded one!

I rarely shop at London Drugs. Prices are usually higher there. There was no signage at the customer service counter. It's the first month of implementation, so u'd think there'd be a sign there. Is it that hard for the cashier to tack on, "Do you want a bag for 5c?" instead of, "Do you u want a bag?" It's just three extra words!

^ I do notice signs at checkout, like the ones that Walmart and Save on Foods put at their checkouts before they implemented the plastic bag charge.
