For those thinking about getting LOOK TV (kind of like Satellite but they have towers that require line of site), DON'T DO IT!
We signed up to look a couple years a go and invested close to $500 in purchasing the equipment and installation.
October 2004 they sent around a survey to see what channels, of a small list, did the subscribers NOT watch. The reason they wanted to remove a couple of the stations was to make room for new channels. This short list included a Christian station, Italian station, ROB (report on business) and SPIKE TV. Look received the surveys and announced that SPIKE TV wasn't popular and was being removed Dec 31, 2004 to make room for the new channels. I contacted them right away to voice my concern that they've read the responses incorrectly or have straight out lied to the users about the results. Come on, ROB TV was more popular? The Christian station was more popular? In my opinion, the decision was not based on the survey, but some other reason beyond my control.
Well, a year later they have finally added more stations. (Yes a year without SPIKE and NO new channels) They are FREE until December 1 at which point I can purchase a new plan to include the new stations.
Part of this same letter reads as follows:
"Over the past year, Look conducted various market studies, surveys and population analyses of channels by region so it could bring you the latest, revamped line-up of the most popular channels. LEAFS TV, included in your package, will be removed as of October 30th."
WHAT??? Are they smoking dope? Of course it would rate low in the past year, there was no freakin Leaf hockey in the last year you idiots.
I just read a story about Leaf TV in which they jumped from 3,000 subscribers when it started, to 30,000 with the return of the NHL and expectations that it will jump to 120,000 subscribers by the end of the year (if you didn't know, Leafs have 13 games this season plus all the pre-season) that are ONLY available through Leaf TV).
Please be warned... talk with your friends, tell them this story. Tell them that the stations they like now may not be available in the future.
Look doesn't offer HDTV signal, the signal quality is far from perfect and with the removal of these two popular stations, I'm leaving. I've had enough of their bull*****.
FORSALE: 3 Look Receivers -- $150 for all of them. PM me.
WANTED: Rogers / Bell sales guy that can get me back on service and willing to get me a great deal. Maybe I can trade in these Look boxes towards Rogers or Bell boxes. PM me.
DON'T sign up for LOOK, heed my words.
Mike

$500 for equipment and installation? That's crazy!
I just got Bell ExpressVu and really like it. I rented for 2 years and pay $2.50/mo. for rental, and no installation charge.
I also called the day before the programming price went up, so I'm paying only $31 for programming and I got NHL Centre Ice for $22.37/mo. for 4 months (half price)._______________

Thanks for heads up... I was thinking about switching to them from Rogers. It's enough of Rogers crap for me. Paying close to $70 a month for non-digital 70 channels with crapload of commercials and nothing to watch.

Gassing LEAF TV was the final straw for this mickey mouse company.
What's the best deal out there Roger Digital or ExpressVu?
It's sad we don't have more choice outside of the two theives Bell & Rogers, I would give anything to have DTV again.

I had an opportunity to call customer service tonight.
Man oh man, they state in the letter, as written above, that they did surveys and market studies regarding Leaf TV. CS told me that the contract was up for renewal and that Look didn't know if there was going to be more hockey, so they didn't renew. Well, just one more indication they are "yesterday thinkers" and no planning for the future.
I then questioned them about their technology and the need to drop 5 stations to get 5 new stations. Is the technology already maxed out? They can't even add 5 stations? I guess if they can't add 5 stations, HDTV is out of the question.
As far as me selling the 3 receivers, I'd rather help a current Look subscriber to buy them from me for $50 each, then see them spend the $200 that Look would shaft them with.
Mickey Mouse is right. I strongly suggested to the CS clerk that I was speaking to, to get her resume out now to beat the flood of resumes that'll hit the market when Look goes belly up. It's not a question of IF, but HOW SOON.
Uggh... bastards.

I feel your pain...I wrote the exact same e-mail to them (and called) a year ago after they dumped SpikeTV. They are incredibly inept. Like you, I invested the $$ in the equipment and installation, but I think I will stay a little while longer. We don't get Rogers (we're in Cogeco territory - and I hate them more than Bell and Rogers together), so it's either Look or DirecTv for me...and I don't feel like having a dish on my house. Plus, they have been underbilling us since day one...so we have been paying less than $60 all-in for highspeed and digital TV...can't beat that anywhere I know of.
BTW, I already have two boxes from ex-Look customers sitting in the basement. Look refused to activate one of them, since they said it was 'stolen'/not returned to them. I invited them to come pick it up. It's still here.

How much is Rogers Digital Cable vs the standard cable?
I have the standard package with all the non-movie type channels (about 65 channels for about $59/mo)
