Looking to buy my first used car.

Looking to buy my first used car. A Mercedes Benz ML or an Audi Q7. Im not a car person so any suggestion is appreciated. Budget $30000 or less.

Both of those cars (used) will have some potentially high maintenance bills but it sounds like you want a luxury SUV. I would read up on their respective car forums to see if there is a buyers guide for used purchasing.

Take your time, and look around. Try to check for wear and tear on the interior. Try to see if there are any service records. Ideally, you should find a audi/MB shop that is trusted, and take any vehicle there for inspection before buying. Read the forums/google, and find out what the common problems are for those cars.

Whatever you do, get a indy german specialist shop to do pre a purchase inspection before buying anything. A audi/mb dealer can also be used as well.

Porshe is owned by the Volkswagen group. Parts sharing across brands (VW, Audi, Porshe, etc. ) to lower costs.

Im fairly certain the vr6 engine and the diesel are Vw sourced and can by found in the touarag.

But dont let that scare you off. Cayenne's are usually voted by press/consumer rankings as the best mid size luxury suvs; ahead of the x5, x6, gle, etc.

You should be able to find one in decent shape with your budget. Preferably find one with service records to ensure that it's been maintained, otherwise you will be paying for what the previous owner neglected.

Have you just considered leasing one though? A ML might be stretching it for a tight budget but sure you can get a X3 or GLK at least.

IMO German used = CPO and extended powertrain warranty.

It will definitely cost more than buying privately, but not many people buy these outright anyway.

Most lease and at the end of the lease don't buy out as warranties are usually up as well, so the best variety and choice may be at the dealerships.

Therefore, don't expect that $30k to go as far as if you bought privately.

For this type of vehicle I'd only go privately fro used Japanese though.
