anyone can recommend a decent time lapse timer for a DSLR........

For Canon? I have an intervalometer that I no longer use that fits my 5d mk ii and some other models too.

There are apps for smartphones to turn them into intervalometers, provided that you have USB connections on both devices, of course.

You can try Opteka Timer. I think its decent.
