Looking for Men's Suit Advice
Hey guys heading to the NY/NJ in a week and one of things I plan to buy are two to three suits. I've always borrowed suits from my bro but now with all the weddings and formal gatherings coming up I think its a must purchase for me.
What should I be looking for in buying suits? the fabric? the style? I'm fashion illiterate in these kind of things..

The only issue I see with that is the double-breasted jacket Nick Cannon is wearing in Slide 10; that is WAY too much waist suppression that it's like a corset cinching his midsection.
Here's the guide that got me started in 2006 (I actually BOUGHT that issue of GQ), but I never actually took action to buy a proper suit until 2012: http://www.gq.com/how-to/fashion/200...-to-buy-a-suit

What typical price range should I be looking expecting for decent suits?

Depends on your definition of decent but looks like this deal is still happening if you check the BB website... 2 suits for $950.

If I were to do my wardrobe all over again, I'll just buy 2 of these (Navy & Grey) when they have 30% off discount.

That GQ article is rubbish. Also Brooks Brothers is very conservative, nothing like what GQ is pushing you to dress like, which is not conservative and more trendy, feminine-like ala Thom Browne. Overly slim, super short everything. err how about, no. Read slide 2 and that's it. Just my opinion.

There are basic rules in the GQ article that offers good reference for someone like OP who doesn't know where to start. Others are merely suggestions rather than rules to swear by.

Trouble with buying in the states is that unless you plan to stay there for a few days... you won't be able to take advantage of the in-house tailor that will alter the suit to fit you. That being said if you call the store ahead of time I'm sure they can work something out with you.
Unless you mean you'll go to BB outlet which alternations are not offered period.

Sure you can. But if you can get the in-house tailor to do it at no extra cost then why not?

Newbie
I second the Suit Supply recommendation. Myself and my groomsmen had an appointment with one of their retail staff when we went down for my bachelor party - really helpful sales associate. If you check out their store I highly recommend setting a firm price point with them (aggressive upsell).
Overall really happy with the suit and the company (one of the few retailers with 32R with a sub $500 price point). I got the Full Washington in navy.
