Looking for my first job! HELP!
im 16 years old, looking for my first job. i really dont want my first job to be at a fast food place. however, i'm completely lost. any info would help a lot. i'm just wondering a few things.
how do i go about applying to places?
do i just go around handing out my resume to random people working or do i ask for a manager/supervisor and give it to them?
any interview tips?
and if you know of any job opportunities in mississauga, preferably at a major mall (square one/erin mills) please let me know!
thanks!

you're not exactly a skilled high demand person, take what you can.
check the newspapers for job fairs aimed at teenagers.
yes, go around handing resumes (always with personalized cover letters). don't necessarily do it randomly, have some sort of plan so you don't repeat yourself.
try to get the manager if possible. and when you do apply in person, pick a time that isn't so busy.
and follow instructions. if you see an ad that says "do not phone" don't phone! the ability to follow instructions is surprisingly unavailable in a lot of people.

That actually help you find a job. They dont just give you a website or anything, they actually try their best to find a job for your for the summer.

The people at the YMCA do not really get the job for you. All they do is provide you a computer to find a job for which can be done at him so not really to useful.

My first job was working as a clean up boy at the local grocery store in the Meat Department.
Pay was minimum wage...kind of a dirty job and I was soaked and reeking of meat/fish every night when I finished...but I learned about the good cuts of meat, how to cut meat (eventually) and the value of a dollar and an appreciation of the clean jobs that I got after the fact.
Meat departments will be preparing for Easter soon...they may be hiring soon. You'd be wise to start applying to grocery stores at this moment in time.
Good Luck.
