Looking for a new computer

Hey everyone I have a laptop which I am thinking of selling, but I was looking into making a decent gaming desktop. I was wondering what kindof computer you would buy with say about 1200-1400$ budget and reasons why.

I just would like to get other people's opinions.

the conroe is affordable, i'ts the mobo that's expensiv.e

Not all mobos are expensive...this seems reasonably priced and the people at Xtremesystems are getting great OCing results with this board:

Giga 965p-DS3 is the best choice for conroe so far.
ECS,MSI also have good 965 boards but I only saw them in China and Japan.
