Looking for a place to do Auto -> Manual swap, suggestions?

A friend is looking to do a Auto to Manual transmission swap on his 2006 Hyundai Accent hatch.

I know it's not worth it but he's set on doing it. His tranny has already gone to crap.

Anybody knows who will do it, and approx price estimate?

He can probably get an identical accent in manual for the cost. Has he looked into that? Lol

He should convert it to diesel while he is at this shop while he does this. He can get a diesel accent engine from europe for close to 1000bucks plus shipping

Friend of mine did his prelude from auto to manual bout 5 years ago, big mistake, for the cost/hassle, just go get another car, plus the auto should be easier to sell. Then use that money to buy the manual.

Unless a shop has done a similar swap recently it's unreasonable to expect them to provide you with any sort of accurate quote on labour or parts. It takes research to determine what is needed (in terms of parts and custom modifications) and without doing that research no accurate quote is possible. If they have the time to do all that research and not charge you for their time, just to provide you with a quote, they are a shop that probably isn't worth going to since they obviously are not busy.

Remember, you don't just unbolt a couple things then bolt in a manual transmission. There is a lot to it, and each car will have it's own tweaks needed.

My advice is to determine what your friends budget is for this swap, then determine if it's reasonable basing the swap on what it costs for other cars. For instance, if your friend is budgeting $500 for the parts/labour to do the swap then it's completely unrealistic. This will stop you/your friend from going any further into looking into it if his budget isn't reasonable.
