Ok, next week I'm getting a Core i7-860, 4gb DDR3 and also a 8800gtx.
But I need a new PSU since right now I have a 25$ one that I'm not trusting...
What do you propose me to buy?
My budget is around 80-85$ shipping+tax included...

Look for brands like,
Seasonic, Corsair, Antec, Fortron or SPI (Sparkle). Those are 4 brands I trust whole heartedly. For $85 range you should be able to find a decent 500W, that's all you'll need and some._______________

Stepping the budget up a bit gives you a lot more options. Don't skimp on your power supply, ever.

Deal with it.

OCZ makes crap PSU's. Only their new gold series is worth a look. The ModXStream line is just horrible - Failed [H]ardocp Review
It's not easy to fine a good psu under $100. I'd wait for the NCIX sale that starts tonight and see if anything good pops up. Corsair, Seasonic and maybe Antec. I'd say you'd want 500W to 600W. Just stay away from OCZ!_______________

Just thought I'd post this again, always a fun video to watch
Don't ever skimp like Silver said. Honestly PSU is the last thing I'd ever skimp on. And like I said before look for quality brands: Seasonic, PC&Power Cooling, Antec, Corsair, and Fortron (aka Sparkle Power).
Antec and Corsair generally get their PSUs made by Seasonic. The other 2 make their own PSUs but are well known for quality. Rule of thumb... The heavier the PSU is, the more quality is put into it._______________

A power calculator I just ran and couple of sites indicate that with this GPU, you need at least 380 watts ...
Antec Earthwatts 500W Power Supply ATX12V V2.2 Active PFC 80-PLUS 80MM Fan (EA500D)? DirectCanada has it for $72
Corsair VX550W 550W ATX 12V 41A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 120MM Fan for $78.77 (after MIR) from DirectCanada, $10 in shipping with GST puts you at $95
yea, I know ... over budget

Regardless of whichever one you go for ...
Check your new MB specs and the specs for your new PS
Lots of the new MBs have an 8 PIN EPS12v power connection while many of current power supplies only have a 4 PIN ATX supply line.
Ensure that your new power supply has an 8pin EPS12v power connection OR
convert using one of these: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=31...ufacture=Works

If ever there was a fail, an epic fail, it's Kyle Bennett. The guy snaps up a bunch of testing equipment that he hasn't got the first clue how to use... He has no idea how to test power supplies, and he eats crow because he tests them improperly and then fails the goddamn things. I love his blaming it on "OCZ taking an issue" citing his self-induced, seriously misplaced sense of expertise and "stress testing to the limits" (ie pushing them beyond rated spec in some, if not many cases). Well yes, I would too if you were an asshat that had no idea what you were doing, no idea how to use your fancy new equipment and absolutely no idea how to test power supplies per the rating AND giving good companies bad press.
An epic example that the right equipment in the wrong hands is still as bloody useless as boobs on a bull.
a) Kyle Bennett is an idiot
b) It helps if the moron tests per manufacturers rating rather than assuming he knows everything and then failing power supplies.
c) There's nothing wrong with the current OCZ power supplies.
There IS something wrong with some high end Antec power supplies. I'm wondering if there's good reason why they cancelled the True Power Quattro. I rather lost faith in mine when flames shot out the back of it.
Meh, maybe it's just me. Maybe they're supposed to double as flamethrowers. lol

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Just because SOME OCZ power supplies are horrible doesn't mean they all are. You just need to know what you're doing and what you're buying. Five year warranties work for me as well, although I've never had one fail yet. For what it's worth Antec also brands some seriously terrible power supplies.
XFX doesn't, and has never, made power supplies. The XFX brand as a whole isn't on par with the other greats. I find it funny that you're lumping them in with OCZ, Corsair and other serious contenders in the high-performance arena. Corsair and Seasonic are great, so are Fortron Source (they're ugly, but vastly superior to anything Antec offers). PC Power and Cooling units are outstanding as well. Simply fabulous power supplies.Last edited by npinc; Dec 2nd, 2009 at 10:53 PM.
