Looking for a used car.

Hi, I'm new to this section on RFD, and was wondering if you guys can help me out in choosing a car.

I just need a beater car for about 3 years. Looking to spend around $2000~$4000. Model must be from 94' and on. (probably with the price, i'm looking at 95~97'. Mileage under 200k)

Any places in Toronto where I can search? I'm not really liking autotrader.ca.

And what type of used car would I be looking at if my price range is $2000~$4000 for a 95~97 model with mileage under 200k.

Any suggestions and opinions are welcome~

check out the automart magazine you find at news stands or at train/bus terminals. I just bought a used car on monday. Also, that Mohamed Bouchama guy on city tv. ask him.

All the Toyotas Ive seeen have like 250, 000 km's or over on it.. and theyre still pretty expensive......

I too am looking for a car, and I noticed that Hyundai Accents are really cheap.. Don't really know how reliable they are but.....Im pretty sure that the 2000 accents started to become a good car, and they fixed alto of problems that pre2000 accents had.. Ive seen alot of accent for around 4000, and would recommend that...Has fairly low km' too, especialyl when u comapre it to a japanese car...

For used I wouldn't suggest Honda or Toyota unless you find a great deal with a low mileage. They hold their value sometimes too well. Domestics seem to be a good deal if you look at depreciation alone, but it's still a lottery. I'd lean towards your direction of the more late model Hyundai's. Are their 10yr warranty's transferrable? Reliability is slowly getting up there.

That's because 250K is not the end of life for one of these cars, like it is with many domestics. I just sold my '91 Tercel with 306K on it to my brother, the car still runs like new and everything feels tight. He's driving it out to BC and back, and I suspect he'll make the journey with no troubles.

Essentially Safe choices are any of : Acura/Honda, Nissan or Toyota

Specifically: Accord, Civic, Maxima, Altima, Camry, Corolla

now wat do u want to do with the car? If you are going to drive it till it dies, go with Maxima (as resale is harder - but cars are solid as steel). so wats ur objective?

Pretty big jump to assume all Tercels of that vintage are likely student cars, don't ya think? Anyways, if a car has that many KM's on it, and it still drives like new, I think it's pretty safe to say it was well maintained over the years.

If you can get a 2000 accent and have the remainder of the 10 year warrenty if would probably be a good deals. Wouldn't have to worry about anything powertrain breaking because warrenty would cover it.
