Just wondering where a good place to buy a XVID/DIVX dvd player is for a decent price?
Possible one with a USB input, so it can play videos off a portable hard drive.

They don't seem to make them any more, especially with USB port. One of the best was the Philips DVP5990. You might be able to find one used via craigslist or kijiji, etc. or a refurbished unit at places like Factory Direct or XS Cargo.

Do you even plan to use it playing dvd disc? Do you just use playing from portable hard drive? It is much harder and more expensive to find dvd player with usb port. Is media player like wdtv live, patriot box office, asus air, etc ok? PBO is about $60 after mail in rebate. It is cheaper than dvd player but its functions is much more. How about this one? It is cheap but for sure is more flimsy and not brand name. It may serve the purpose.

I have both the Philips DVP5990 and DVP3560 both of which canb play DivX and Xvid through a USB memory stick. The performance has been very reliable and the picture quality very good. I purchased both units through Dell (for $49 each). It appears that DEll is no longer offering either model. The only DVD w/DivX DVD player they have listed is the LG DV580H EARN CASH BACK which does not appear to have a USB port.
TigerDirect carries the Philips DVP3560 EARN CASH BACKbut I think it's overpriced.

Bought Philips 3560 two weeks ago in Walmart - $44, but had to call several stores until found two units remaining in one of them. Very happy so far, knock the wood. USB is very handy for downloading movies from torrents. Compared to my other player (3982) the new one has much better compatibility for DivX and XVID.
