Few ideas I've seen and/or done... most of these were for groups of 10-12. I find if you keep an eye out for sales, you can get stuff pretty inexpensive.

- packs of crayons w/ a pack of paper
- small bottle of bubbles
- crayola watercolor set with a canvas
- beach toy set
- mini clay pot with a pack of seeds
- a cookbook for kids ( party was at loblaws cooking school)
- mini travel game

Last bday party we threw for our son and our daughter, "no gifts please" and "no loot bags will be handed out".

Problem solved.

My kid made it through daycare and I now have a drawer full of cute erasers and pencils. Every time they got one, it ended up in their cubby (probably for safety reasons) and they never once cared enough to use them. I think it's a waste but I think everyone gets caught up in feeling obligated that they need to do it since the other kids did the same.
It's a total waste. Of time, of money, of resources. And it all ends up in the garbage, usually untouched.

Who cares what everyone else thinks. Do what you think is right.

Look for sales at Walmart. Loot bags are probably $5 per child.

One time, I saw Paw Patrol stuff toys, like 9 inches tall, selling for $4 each. We bought like 15 of them. Wrapped it in clear wrapping plastic/paper, it looked amazing.

In my case, having all those pencils and erasers worked out for me as I'm always looking for pencils when I'm working on stuff around the house. Now I just need my kid to get more pencil sharpeners.

I bet a Dollarama franchisee started this trend and proceeded to gain millions off it.

Loot bags for parties... absolutely.
Loot bags for school... not in this house.

I prefer useful stuff. The cheap plastic crap that you buy at dollar and bulk stores adds so much to our landfills...

Totally have the same problem. The pencils would be great, but I don't have a sharpener! That's actually a pretty good idea for my next obligatory loot bag.

I like to give the current fad.

Last year it was fidget spinners.

This year, super soakers.
