I found it to be pretty good. Most of the guys who worked on C&C did this so it plays a bit like Generals.

LOTR: Battle For Middle Earth PC Game
Anyone else playing this RTS game?
It's pretty simple, create farm for gold, build barracks, form a large army quick, upgrade troops, wipe out enemy's base.
The play map is eye catching.
Overall 6/10, it's definitely not great like Starcraft.

If you're a big LOTR fan, this game is definitely worth it. It plays like C&C Generals but in a LOTR theme. The music, sound effects, voices are straight out of the movies. All 3 of them, thus far, I am playing on the Good campaign and I'm on act 17, The Defense of Osgiliath (or rather, the fall of Osgiliath).
There's 30 acts per side (Good and Evil). I am near the Siege of Minas Tirith, which is going to be awesome!! I fought for Helm's Deep a couple of days ago and it's just like the movies, the wall gets blown up and you have to retreat and keep your heroes alive, then summon Eomer and Gandalf when they come with the Rohirim and run over the Uruk-hai mofos! It's a THX certified game so crank up your speakers when your horses do a calvary charge!

It's currently at 83% at Game Rankings, a website that collects game reviews. The general consensus is that it's a good "light strategy" game which makes really good use of the movie license. Harcore RTS fans might think it's too simplistic but it looks like it's right up my alley. I'll pick it up on Boxing Day.

Balrog, Nazgul/Fellbeast, Army Of The Dead, Eagles are nasty. With the right combination strike, you can wipe out the enemy's base.
That Balrog is the most scariest in skirmish. You need all the heroes to take him out.Last edited by Mr. Robo; Dec 12th, 2004 at 08:19 PM.

Dec 12th, 2004 08:16 PM #10I sent about a hundred Gondor swordsman towards the Balrog in a skirmish, he basically made lunch meat out of them within 5 seconds. Didn't really help the fact that they were cowering in fear, the calvary didn't help much either since they ran away. Then I finally sent in Gandalf backed up by a bunch of Rangers/Bowman and he knocked the snot out of the Balrog!

Dec 12th, 2004 08:23 PM #11I agree, sending one or more heroes isn't gonna kill the Balrog.

Wow I just defended Minas Tirith, on Hard mode... First they sent a bunch of Orcs..and siege towers, and catapults. Then they sent in mountain Trolls, and eventually the Haradrim and their Mumakill came... I lost so many trebuchets to their Nazgul, there were like 9 of them, just like in the movie! They came swooping from the sky with their loud shrieking... Then came the battering ram... I was like, wtf....!! My archers could not kill the Nazgul quick enough, trolls just kept banging the walls and doors... finally, the Rohirim came but got squished by the Mumakils... finally, at the last minute, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas arrived and Aragorn summoned The Army of the Dead and it was all over. My forces could finally counter-attack and drove them away from the Pelonor Fields... it was victory at last! It's one of those gaming moments you won't forget for awhile...
