Luminato - Le Grand Continental Performance (Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto) - June 22, 23, 24

Joyous and intoxicating Le Grand Continental® is a world-renowned extravaganza that brings together hundreds of dance enthusiasts to perform a sensational line dancing inspired contemporary dance. Twirling into a rhythmic human kaleidoscope of participants aged from the very young to the young-at-heart chosen from applicants from across the breadth of the city, will dance up an exhilarating storm. It will have taken them three months to rehearse and you only 30 minutes to fall in love with Le Grand Continental®.

Celebrated for the elegance and finesse of his choreography, Montreal’s Sylvain Émard debuted Le Grand Continental®in his hometown in 2009, and the concept has since traveled to Mexico City, New York, Philadelphia, Portland (Oregon), Boston, Ottawa, Vancouver, South Korea, New Zealand and Chile. A new choreographic piece will be created especially for Toronto performed to music commissioned by Luminato from young electro-pop artist and festival alumni Wolf Saga.

With other music by Martin Tétreault, an infectious range of tunes, rhythms and beats will make joining in almost irresistible. But you will get your moment when, after the performance, you will be invited to join the cast to dance their own freestyle Continental, as Nathan Phillips Square becomes a huge open-air dance floor where the only thing that matters is the joy of dancing!

Schedule:
  • Friday, June 22 at 9:15 PM
  • Saturday, June 23 at 4 PM & 9:15 PM
  • Sunday, June 24 at 11 AM
Relaxed Performance on June 23 at 4 PM and June 24 at 11 AM.

Went last night and have to say the dancers were amazing! They've been rehearsing for three months and all the hard work has paid off.

If you're in the area, check it out tonight or tomorrow.

Love that it's involves such a diverse group of people and it really is a smile-inducing, positive experience:
