Lunch in the PATH (downtown T.O)

Every lunch time is a dillema, I'm forced to make tough decisions on where to go for lunch in Toronto's undeground PATH system. Can anyone recommend good places for lunch? How about places to stay away from?

I think Modern Wok has the most authentic food in the Chinese food category.

In the manulife center, on the corner of st. charles and bay (I think? do they intersect), there is a little italian restaurant, I cant think of the name, but its next to the canada post office...I know that is vague, but they have the BEST FOOOOOD ever and really really good pizza and there are a lot of take out things on display in the front, good prices too.

They got a Swiss Chalet Express in First Canadian Palace.

Mmmm...now thats good eating. Only prob is its very hard to find a spot to sit from 12 to 1.

I need my food fast out of necessity but that's no reason to eat crap. I just want to discover a few gems that will satisfy my whims. If I feel like Chinese I go to X. If I feel like pasta, I go to Y. If I feel like Greek I'll go Z. Pizza, burgers, curry, etc.

Bordrr, I'll try that place if I can get a name.

Jaytee, 1st CDN is crazy at lunch but they got the best outdoor facilities for the summer B) ahhhh.. summer.

Ben Jr, Thai Island is one of my regulars. For some reason I really like their curry and soup noodles. :P

I pass Modern Wok everyday but Ive never tried it. There is always a long line at lunch though.

In Simcoe Place they have a excellent Thai place. I cant remember the name, Green Curry I think. Its to the left of McDonalds. Just look for the big big line.

I go there all the time. Its very good and fairly cheap. Most combos use to be $5 even but they recently increased to $5 and change. I recommend the sesame chicken on pat thai with spring roll. Mmmmmm.

The restaurant "Bordrr" was describing in the Manulife Centre is SCACCIA, an Italian restaurant/take-out on the Concourse Level. Excellent food!

Try ordering:
- Scaccia pizzas: definitely not the typical mundane pizza we're used to
- Chicken sandwich with cheese

For Greek food, go and try Epicourn (sp?). It is at First Canadian Place, on the same level as the Swiss Chalet. But it is in a far corner, all by itself and it also has a restaurant part as well.

They have an excellent chicken breast dinner. The chicken breast is very different from say Jimmy the Greek. The meat just tastes so much better and tastes like chicken and has a nice texture. For some reason, I find Jimmy The Greek chicken to be more processed and rubbery.


**EDIT** Just checked the First Canadian Place website, the place is now Santorini Cafe. I think they were always under that name but also had Epicourn (sp?). Maybe that is for the restaurant. I hope they haven't changed as I haven't tried it in over a year, maybe someone else can attest they haven't changed management etc.**

For a good veal on a bun, try Piazza Manna, in the Exchange Tower food court.

There's a new Thai place at Scotia Tower called Thai Express. The only problem is that it's very very busy. You will lineup up to an hour during busy times. However, they cook their stuff fresh in front of you. For example, if you order the Pad Thai, you will see the chef take the ingredients and make it in the work right in front of you so you know it's fresh.

At BCE Place, there's an actual Piazza Manna restaurant. It's not a fast food place like all the other ones. They make great Foccacia sandwiches that are toasted. Their meatball sandwich is very very tasty and big!

My regular place is also Thai Island at the Exchange Tower and the Noodles at First Canadian place beside Taco Bell. For curry, I usually go to EDO at BCE place. They pack the container with a lot of curry chicken. If I want to go lighter, Fit For Life has a Curry Chicken/Salad combination for $4. The Roast Chicken combo at Jimmy the Greek is also a decent lunch.
