I think it's free with a balance of over $1,000. It's a chequing account and a savings account at the same time, strange mixture...

It's a virtual bank, there's advisors around everywhere, just scroll down to the bottom of the page and enter your postal code for information. Keep in mind, these are third party advisors, Manulife doesn't run any branches, only ATMs in spaces they rent (in addition to the EXCHANGE network).

Did anyone get any hard credit checks ran against them or are they all soft checks to verify identity?

Sounds like this promo started a while ago?? No RFDers noticed till now. Also the promo is not well advertised.

Called Tangerine to get my promotional 3% rate extended no dice, after haggling best was 2.3% for 6 mths.

The Manulife account allows a savings/chequing combo which seems good.

they do but a little strange....I talked to a rep....each of you have to open a separate account....then you phone in and they combine and close one of the accounts...LOL

You can also get it opened at a third party advisor and have it made joint there on the spot if you wanted.

I noticed that the start date was in January and was a bit curious why no one mentioned it until now, I thought I just missed it a while back! Good thing there’s still more than two weeks for everyone to sign up! Also perfect timing for me, my RBC interest expires on the coming Monday so I’m opening this account and moving everything to here on the Monday!

I think Manulife bank is just a hidden secret until now anyway, they must be getting a influx of sign ups today!

So what's the fasted way to get money (200k+) from my TD account into my just opened Manulife account. I don't want to wastea week plus mailing a cheque and it seems my phone is too old for the app to work it says. Any suggestions?

Looks like any serious money of mine gonna continue to be staying out of Tangerine ... (it's already out of there since September 2018 via various promotions - TD and BMO -- was only at Tangerine for couple of months at 3.15% at that time ... in between TD and BMO promotions).

Out of curiosity: Could bills be paid, if needed / wanted out of that Manulife account ... or that account doesn't have bill payments?

Looks like my money is going there now ... after BMO promo ends (end of April).

Thanks OP.

How much will I earn in interest if I deposit 10k and leave it there till promotion?

If I understand correctly, I'll be paid:
  • $150 every month (regular interest) and,
  • $185 cumulated every month but paid only after the promotion ends?
