Mark Zuckerberg just drastically changed the way Facebook operates because he says he's been rethinking his legacy

from http://www.businessinsider.com/facebook ... acy-2018-1

  • Facebook says it will surface posts from friends more prominently in the News Feed than those from brands and publishers.
  • The change was inspired by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's having children.
  • "It's important to me that when Max and August grow up that they feel like what their father built was good for the world," Zuckerberg told The New York Times.

Facebook is changing the focus in feeds — what are the implications?
Facebook is changing the focus in news feeds, putting the priority on family and friends instead of organizations. Why were these changes made and what do they mean for users, news organizations, advertisers and Facebook’s shareholders.

the one thing that I hate about facebook and twitter is how out of order things always appear on my news feed... I ALWAYS have to switch to "most recent" on facebook and even then it's sometimes out of order.... Same with twitter... I still use twitter a lot though. Find it good for breaking news, transit/police updates etc.

Glad facebook is implementing these changes. I always click the "I don't want these notifications" or " I want to see less of this" when I get ads etc on my newsfeed.

Now that I've made my billions, "it's important to me that when Max and August grow up that they feel like what their father built was good for the world," Zuckerberg told The New York Times.
Fixed that for ya Mark.

With Just 1 Facebook Post, Mark Zuckerberg Lost About $3 Billion Friday

One thing I respected Zuck for big time is he had the smarts to maintain control of his own company throughout all stages, he never "sold out".

Zuckerberg still owns almost 30% of the company... no one can realistically outvote him.

This is extremely rare. Usually as startups bring on investors, the investors force the angels and the founders to dilute themselves. Zuck never let that happen to him. And he has been able to come up with ways to maintain his control:

Even Bezos only owns 17% of Amazon.

That said, his personal fortune and net worth is very tied up into Facebook. He was trying to cook up a scheme last year that would have allowed him to sell a lot of his shares without losing his control of the company, but it never went through.

So they're going back to the way things used to be? Facebook in 2007 was full of friends and family. Facebook in 2017 was full of clickbait "news" articles and children arguing in the comments sections.
