Maxtor HDD RMA
How reliable are Maxtor refurbished SATA HDDs and what's Maxtor's RMA policy? I recently RMA'd a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 200GB SATA HDD. Got a refurbished one last week and got that one going for a couple of days until it started acting up yesterday. Ran the Maxtor diagnostic program and its telling me the HDD is dying. So I'll have to RMA this HDD too. The exact same thing happened to my friend's Western Digital 36GB Raptor a few months ago; the new refurbished HDD died within days of receiving it.
Is this common? Will Maxtor decline my second RMA request within such a short-period?

Maxtor will replace the drive as long as your warranty is in effect.

Yeap, even if it's within a short time period they will replace it. Something could have happend during the shipping - they will not leave customers stranded like this on partial DOAs. Anyway, just tell them how frustratred you are that this happend and that you don't blame them - because you are confident that they make sure they send out working replacments. You feel that something might have happend during the shipping and then ask if they can send someone to pickup the drive from you and ask that they understand your situation as it would be unfair for you to shell out more money to pay shipping back something that died so soon. Anyway, keep cool and you'll get better customer service from a liberal tone than an irate one from them. Good Luck!
Oh, and to save some headaches, it could be a faulty psu that has gone bad and therefore not supplying enough power to get your drive going - which is why it could 'appear' to be dying. If you own and know how to properly troubleshoot a psu with a voltmeter, then check it out. Otherwise I recommed swapping the PSU to make sure.
