I went to a dealership yesterday (who's an acquaintance of mine) and when we were discussing the deal, he was fairly open and said that the Markup on the 2008 Mazda 3GS is $1,400 'and lets see if we can meet somewhere in the middle'.
Does anyone know if the markup of only $1,400 sounds reasonable/correct?? Thanks.

Thanks for the link, but I've already been through his thread, and he's on vacation!! My fiances lease is ending tomorrow, and she needs a new car by monday. She's already set on the Mazda3 but looking into lease vs finance. We originally wanted to lease but with the rate being 4.9% to lease, and 0% to finance.
Financing is WAY more attractive at the moment. Just wanted to know if the $1400 is about right.

The Mazda3 has the door lock issue. Some reports indicate that the perp has to hit the door harder than before and can STILL gain entry that way. Of course, the dealer will tell you that the problem has been "fixed". The Mazda3 will always be targeted by thieves. The resale value of the Mazda3 may also have taken a hit as a result. There's also a class action lawsuit regarding the Mazda3 and this issue. Mazda is also low on inital reliabilty according to JD Powers.

$1400 markup on the GS sounds about right.
There's not a lot of room to move on an economy car. $500 is often a decent discount. $1000 is pretty damn good. Somewhere in the middle would be fair, if dissed by the RFD crowd.

You'd also be surprised by the ammount of people that don't know that the issue was already fixed by Mazda on all the newer 3s, and that the ones that were affected by this had a recall to fix the problem.

Please don't spout BS. If you want to make such a claim please atleast let it be factual and up to date._______________

True, the recall involves a protective plate that is not 100% effective. The Mazda3 can be a targeted vehicle, but I have yet to notice a dented one myself.

BC:Victoria and Vancouver are heavily affected then it moved it's way back east. Oddly, it hasn't affected those in the USA.

$1400 sounds about right. I had access to the '06 and '07 invoice pricing and the amount you stated is quite close to dealer cost. It ranges depending on trim level. What you can also bargain on is the msrp price of the options (sunroof, accessories, and paint even). I must admit though, Mazda's profit margin for options is slim, cept for accessories (spoilers, etc).

The $1400 probably didnt include manufacturer's incentive to the dealer.
