The new Mazda3 is expected to be announced at the LA auto Show at the end of November. it won't be at dealers until March at the earliest so I would expect Mazda to continue selling the 2018 until then.

In theory, once the 2019 (all new... u might not even want a 2018 after it comes out) you should be able to save a boat load. But its pretty late in the year now and the production model hasnt been released yet. My guy tells me its been delayed and we might not see it at dealer lots until Q1.
In reality, depreciation is often a major player when buying a new vehicle at the end of it's introduction year.

That is normal for new redesigns. The Mazda6 was announced at last year's LA auto show and arrived this spring.

The information came from a Japanese Auto magazine.

From your source, Mar 2019 for JDM! I expect no earlier than (late) fall as 2020, or even early 2020 as 2021 model in North Am.

There was not a large gap between JPM and NA release for the Mazda6. It'll be here this spring.

However, for Mazda's first vehicle that got the full Skyactiv treatment from the ground up, there's a year's lag IIRC.

I hope Mazda is aware of what it's biggest problem: Rust, and fix it the sooner the better. The last thing it needs is tech that's under-developed like its wankel engine. THAT would be the end of the co.

The issue with the rust fiasco is that they have improved, and besides isolated cases, resolved it..

The damage is already done however, and it'll take a while to shed the image of Mazda's being rust buckets - you'll hear people spout this for years to come...

I love my mazda as much as the next guy, but I still think it's too soon to rule out rust issues.
When given enough time, all threads on RFD can and will go off on a tangent.

From which MY?
2nd generation, which began MY2009.

3rd generation in MY2014 to current has had quality issues with spot welds more than a widespread rust issue that people refer to from 2008 and earlier.

It's literally been a decade since the rampant rust issue has been behind us..

I have a 2015 that's been rust proofed (do this with all my vehicles, cheap insurance and piece of mind..makes maintenance easier). It still has stone chips that untreated, are starting to rust. Is that Mazda's fault? Hell no.

People neglect things and blame others for their own lack of care.

So I lost my side mirror cap (passenger side), is there anywhere I can get this part without replacing the whole side mirror?

How much am I looking at?

Also, is there any danger if water gets through the hole where there is a wire or is it sealed properly?

What's sealed today may not be tomorrow if it's left exposed, that's how I'd approach it.

You can definitely buy mirror caps. Best thing to do would be to go to a scrap yard, pick the part yourself and be on your way for cheap. Otherwise, looks like they can be had online for under $50 even.

Make sure there are no broken clips, you'll want the whole mirror if that's the case.

Is there an easy way to find the actual part number of this cover?
Will call the dealer tomorrow but want to do some research on my side.
