Mazda Tribute / Ford Escape Transfer Case

Hello Fellow Members,

I recently had to replace the transfer case on my 2006 Mazda Tribute with 56,000km.

The place I had it repaired said it is a common problem on these vehicles (year 2006 and newer) but ford/mazda are not going to issue a recall or anything. Is it strange for this part to fail so soon?

I also spoke with a friend that use to work for a Ford dealership and when he spoke to his friends still at the dealership they also confirmed that this is becoming a pretty common problem.

I am not expert on vehicles but everyone that I have spoken with seems suprised that this part has failed so early/soon.

I contact Mazda Canada/Local Dealership and neither appears willing to admit there is a problem or help with the repair cost at all. I have already tried going through BBB but they cant really force Mazda to do anything and as previously mentioned Mazda is denying there is an issue.

Any other ways to pursue this to try and get back some of the repair cost? Anyone else have a similar problem?

I am presuming that you did not get it replaced at a dealer? (hence lack of support from him or Mazda) Did your warranty not cover anything? 3 years old and only 56K kms seems a short time?
BBB can not help, they only take reports and then let you see the reports, they have no authority whatsoever.
At this point almost all you can do is do as much research as you can, gather all the data to help your cause and then present it. Get hard information from your Ford friend, perhaps you can pay a bit and get service bulletins from Alldata or some other site (or your Ford freind,, they have access to other brands too). It is all after the fact info but everything helps your case. If you have severed your relationship with the dealer and the OEM I suspect you will get very little support. Sometimes there has been "goodwill" gestures by OEM's and dealers for issues they have seen before but they are just that, goodwill, not a requirement.
Yea, there are those out there that call them "stealerships", tell you never to go back but, when you need them, many have shot themselves in the foot. (no accusations, just stating a point).

Is your warranty over already? Most basic car warranties are at least 3yrs/60,000km. Clearly you have less mileage than that, are you over 3 years?

Mazda basic coverage on the Tribute should be 3/80K. Not sure what this means though when I looked at the Mazda web site...

Also I was told it is 3yr/60k which I was past the 3 year mark in December of 2008 (I got the vehicle December 22, 2005).

Also the dealership did all of the servicing up until I had an issue with the breaks and they were not willing to help even though I had brought it in for a break issue multiple times and they just would do a break service and call it good. Ever since then I took it to a place that always did all of my servicing/repair work prior to owning a new vehicle.

Also the dealership guy said that power train is only lube and adjustment coverage which I have no idea what that means as I assumed power train would cover the actual components.

Mazda Canada still hasnt got back to me and BBB has said they cant really out in this matter. I am hoping for something but looks like the little guy will loose out on yet another battle.
