How is this card any different from PC Mastercard? I thought it's also 1% cashback. The only difference I see is platinum. Any benefits if I don't rent car often?

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but I just applied for the Premier Rewards card through GCR to get $40 extra! I'll upgrade it once I get the card

Probably only for new applications. Good thing I cancelled my University card years ago.

3% cashback on gas and groceries and 1% cashback for the rest!
Hey Guys, i did call a few days back about the Platinum Upgrade and i was told by the CSR that there is a new card that will be coming out in a week, forgot what it is called but it would have a 3% cashback on gas and groceries but 1% cashback on your other expenses.
She said i could either wait for a week to get that new card or i can just switch to the platinum status now, so i was like yeah i will wait for a week and get the new card instead.
I have been using the MBNA card for the past 5 years, hope this will help some of you guys out.Last edited by sweetvar26; Apr 5th, 2009 at 12:28 PM.

"Plus" as in 4% on groceries and gas ? Don't think that's what you meant, but it would be sweet

I called MBNA on the March 31 to close my Primer Reward account half an hour before midnight; the rep offer me the new MBNA Smart Cash card. He said that it is new (start on April 1, 2009) and it is not on the web yet.
This card offers 3% cash back on Gas and groceries; 1% on normal purchase. In stead of sending out rebate cheque on every January on the Premier Reward card, this card send out rebate cheque whenever rebate dollar reach $50.
In additional to my cancelation of my card, the retention rep offered me 5% cash back on Gas and groceries on the first 6 months.

Just spent 3 minutes on the phone with MBNA rep to convert my current MBNA Premier Rewards Platinum Plus to the new Smart Cash card.
I asked twice and got confirmed twice
It is a Platinum card. No annual fee FOREVER (not just waived in the 1st year).
Points earned so far will be forfeited when convert to the new card.
Promotional rate 5% rebate on GAS and GROCERIES (registered gas, grocery business: Loblow, Safeway, etc.., Walmart, Canadian Tire are NOT) on first 6 months up to $600 per month, after that it is 1%.
After 6 months, regular rate is 3% rebate for the first $600 per month and after $600 it is 1%.
All other purchases are 1% rebate.
Also the interest rate for the new Smart Cash Card is 13.9% compared to 19.9% for the PRP+. I was offered the new rate automatically without negotiation.
Everything else and all the purks are the same as Premier Rewards Platinum Plus including $1M travel accidental insurance, collision waivers etc...
So basically getting more rebate for the Gas and Grocery and get cash back more frequently which is good.
More details will be updated when I receive the welcome package in 10 days.
Hope this helps.Last edited by digdeep; Apr 6th, 2009 at 01:20 AM.

Wow, looks like a very HOT/TEMPTING deal. Too bad I already have 3 credit cards, lol... I might have to cancel my BMO Mosiak and switch over to the new MBNA Smart Cash Card. :-) Or should I go with the MBNA SPG??
So MBNA has Premier Rewards, SPG, and Smart Cash? Wow! Nice!
