Hi guys, I need your help here.
I applied this card last week. I called in today to check the status. The rep on the phone told me my application was declined because I'm not a permanent resident (I'm an international student). I asked her why I need to be a permanent resident to apply this card. She said becasue it was written in the guideline.
Is it true??? Looks like 5% cash back is saying goodbye to me!!!

yip.
Are you a Canadian resident? *
Yes No
Why do we ask for this?
Can non-Canadian residents apply online?
You must be a permanent resident of Canada to apply for an MBNA Canada credit card.

Got the welcome package! Looking forward to the card actually getting here.
How many have actually read the terms? A lot of cards offer zero liability, but for this one, it says, under UNAUTHORIZED USE OF YOUR CARD:
Your liability for unauthorized use of your Card will not exceed $50.00
Has anyone ever had their MBNA card comprised (or stolen) and had to pay?

Yeah, that's the legal limit for liability on a credit card fraud, at least in the states anyway, and apparently they must do the same in Canada. That said, MasterCard's site says you get 2 zero liabilities per year on all their cards. Maybe the $50 per incident is after that?

Offer Expired?
My mother called MBNA four times and they would not let her apply. Depending on who she asked, she got varying stories: There is no offer for that card, or you have to talk to a supervisor to get that card, or it's only an offer for existing customers, then it was a third party who is offering the card (at another phone number which just connected back to the same call centre), etc. She was not able to apply as they acted as if the card does not exist.
It's strange, I gave her the same number that I used, and I was easily able apply for it even though I was not previously an MBNA customer.

I got the card today but the welcome package has not come (yet).
It still has the $400 credit limit. As I said in previous post, I transfer another MBNA Master to this. Since I did not use that card, they drop my credit limit from $5500 to $400. I need to increase that with their credit department tomorrow. The activation center can't do that (as they claim).
So, I have a Platinum Plus Mastercard with $400 credit limit at this moment.
