They will NEVER provide you with the exp date over the phone unless you find a noob rep who has no idea about life.
Logically, you can't use the card until its activated as it would defeat any purpose of even activating the card.
On a side note, my dad finally got the card in the mail today after initially applying for it on May 1st.

smart cash card
My spouse was rejected saying that you have enough credit considering your income!
She applied as new even though she had 2 % balance transfer for life card with MBNA.
What you guys suggested her to do now?
She thought that if she got this card she will cancel BMO airmiles card and use this one for day to day transactions.
Do you feel calling them in any way help?
or any other options ..
thanks,

I transfered my existing MBNA card to Smart Cash card this morning, and CSR said that you'll get the new card in 10-15 business days.
At same time, I confirmed that I can't use my existing card as Smart Cash card, and need to wait for the new card.

I applied on June 8th as a new customer, called back around the 15th or so to check on the status (At which point they do the credit check on the spot) and I just received my Platinum Smart Cash card today. Really quick turnaround.
Maybe the key is to call and followup on the credit check? The lady said this would bump my application ahead of others and save me weeks, which it appears to have.

You are right that you can't make a purchase without the card

Thanks, it was more for finding out the end date rather than the start.

Wheee! Just got a starwood preferred guest mastercard through GCR for the free $40, and called them up right after activating it and asked if they could change it to the smartcash card.
They said it would arrive in two weeks. Here's hoping nothing happens to the $40 I should be getting from GCR

I didn't read the rest of the postings... but where did you see the link for the $40 GCR promo?.. I couldn't find it.

It's in the Finance section on the site.
The $40 will stay as long as you are approved, not to worry.

I've got the $40 listed but it won't let me request a cheque... can someone PM me if they know why this would be the case?

Read the FAQ on GCR. Question #9 to be precise.
