You then have to call to switch to Platinum Plus. It's a stupid system but that's how I got my PP+ Premier Rewards, which is now the PP+ Smart Cash.
thanks for your input, that means I gotta play the wait game? Or would can all this be done once approved with the vanilla card?

haha as of right now i have approximately....0 income. Just make sure you select student and they won't care about income. Once you get any credit card from MBNA you can upgrade no problem.
I don't know if its just me but I find MBNA reps surprisingly pleasant, I've never had a bad dealing with them.

haha great!! Thanks a lot! Luckily I held off from applying to Citi's Enrich MC, maybe it was a sign to wait for this.

You might wanna try applying by phone because if you apply online you will have to wait at least 6 weeks guaranteed

Has anyone had identity theft problems/fraud with this carrier? Just wondering...
And can someone post the terms and conditions once they get their paperwork/contract?
I'd like to read it before attempting to call/sign up.
Thanks in advance.

No identity theft problems whatsoever.
I also agree with sPiKyAZN, I never had any issues with any MBNA reps. It's always a pleasant call whenever I talk to them

MBNA used to have a bad reputation some years ago, but apparently they have improved HUGE since Bank of America bought them. I've had my SPG card with them for a year, and have NEVER had any issues with MBNA.

They used to have a bad reputation? Good thing they had been bought by Bank Of America. I've only been an MBNA customer for a year and a half and I only learned the company through RFD. Since then, this has become my primary card and I love everything about the company

Effect on credit report?
If I convert my current MBNA card to the new Smart Cash card, does anyone know what effect this will have on my credit report?
I know that some banks like RBC simply change the account number that it reports to the credit agencies, so you can convert your current card to another RBC card, but on your credit report it will appear as if you have had the same card for the whole time. In my experience, Amex, on the other hand, cancels your old account and starts up a new account, so it looks like you've cancelled a card and started a new card. Naturally, the RBC approach is preferable, because long-standing accounts with a positive payment history can increase your credit score.

i really wanted to cancel my MBNA mastercard and they offered this new smart cash card, so i stayed again..
its pretty easy to get a MBNA master card. i bought some stuff at sonystyle and they kept sending me the credit card application and finally gave in 2 years ago. i never heard of MBNA so i was kinda wary.
i see them trying to sign up people at universities too.
