Got my card today. Tks RFD.

Here how i apply for a new cc.
1. apply card on phone at 16 apr.
2. call in at 24 apr got approve. and rep says will mail the card out within 13 business day.
3. May 1 received my first MBNA cc with a "UNSEAL" envelope and the wrong address. (city name wrong too~~)
4. May 1 call in for replacement card. reps say "i sould recevied the cc on next day (ship Fedex)...
5. May 2 call in reps said " Fedex not shipping on saturday so i will receive on mondy....
6. May 3 call in reps said my CC is not shipping out yet... i will receive after wed May 6.
7. Today May 4, I got my CC ...... again with an "unseal" MBNA evelope ......

my envelope wasn't sealed well either and it was partially ripped. Fortunately, it was difficult to see much of anything through the rip.

Well, at least I received my card quickly. Applied on the 23rd and got it today.

You had better call them as they could be:
1) Waiting for a call for you to tell them you were serious about applying
2) Waiting for a call so that they can approve you
3) Waiting for you to tell them to mail the card

Its a babysitting process. So hold their hand tight.

Called them up this morning and it turns out they were waiting to approve me. Odd, since the initial representative assured me that I would be receiving the card in the mail and not need to call back for approval. Never a dull moment with MBNA.

Nevertheless, I should expect my card 10-15 business days (May 20-27). X.X

Thanks OP. Converted my wife's (mostly unused) SPG MC to this card. I have a supplementary card on that account and we've moved gas/groceries spending to this card.

We're still keeping other spending on my SPG MC (with my wife having a supplementary card).

Will re-evaluate once the 6 month promo runs out, but I think even 3% is still pretty decent, so will likely keep the same setup (unless RFD points out the next better deal ).

BTW We started using her old SPG MC for gas/groceries as soon as the site updated the account showing Smart Cash MC. I'm pretty sure the spending will count against the Smart Cash MC, even though the physical card is still the SPG MC. I had to draw a big "G" on her card to distinguish which one to use for gas/groceries, since both cards are the same!

I Understand Mastercard Liability, but all I can say is at Loblaws, there have been times when I never had to sign with purchases more than $50. Just as there have been times were I HAD to sign with purchases less than $50 (for Paypass).

I believe it was probably them adjusting the limit based on the amount of chargebacks, issues, and probably average $ amount per transaction.

Generally PayPass is $25 but the merchant does have a bit of leeway with this. For example, Petro-Can is $50 in-store (cause most people get more than $25 in gas).

I believe Loblaws originally tried out $100, then $75. It's possible they dropped it to $50 based on different variables as mentioned above.

Just finished the call to convert my UBC card to Smart Cash.
To be safe, I'm keeping my PRP+ card till I get the credit and then switching that to something else, maybe SPG...

Why guess? I posted a link a few posts back that talks about the usage of Mastercards at Loblaws (and other Loblaws-owned stores) and the $ limit for no-signature eligible transactions.

with the PC MasterCard, your signature is not required for purchases of $100 or less at every Loblaw store, so you can swipe and go at Fortino's, Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore, valu-mart, Zehrs, No Frills, Your Independent Grocer, Extra Foods, Provigo, Maxi, Maxi & Co, Save Easy, Atlantic Superstore locations and supermarkets in Newfoundland and Labrador where President's Choice products are sold.

with any other type of MasterCard credit card, your signature is not required for purchases of $35 or less at every Loblaw store

i dont have the premier card just a regular mbna one...do i just call and ask abt the upgrade? i guess i got the promo letter via snail mail with the code in the first post? that's it?

yes doesn't matter what card you had, I had a Sony points card (considered a "Preferred Card") and they upgraded it no questions asked. Others have got the card and they didn't have any card with MBNA at all. I think the best advice I can give is to call the 1.888.876.6262 number (found on the back of existing MBNA cards, make sure you select "Account Maintenance" or whatever they term it as, rather than new activiations) and call during business hours to ensure you get the Canadian call center who seem more helpful (not to mention easier to understand) and are well aware of the card.

As some people have said MBNA Customer Service SUCKS BIG TIME, It does!!

Here's my horror story:
Requested a tsf of credit from PRPP card to SC card on April 10. Didn't get REF #.
Checked with MBNA on April 21 - CSR said it was approved.
Checked April 27 - CSR had trouble locating my SC info - checked with Credit Dept. and said it was approved.
A little skeptical, so I call back today and CSR says NO RECORD of me requesting SC card. Meanwhile they reduced my PRPP card by the 10K I asked them to do.

I screamed and hollered at them and they quickly put in a new App and tsf me to the Credit Dept who quickly approved me on the spot for the SC card. Got a REF # this time.
They offered to Fedex the card to me at NO CHARGE.

Will see next week if it's delivered.

I'm half way there.

So, after screaming at MBNA exactly 1 week ago they actually kept their word on couriering out my SC card. I'll pick it up at their Distribution Centre tomorrow.

Doubt it. It'll be Canada Post charging your CC, not Sobey's.

Doubt it. It'll be Canada Post charging your CC, not Sobey's.

Canada Post kiosk have their own merchant code. So you would only get 1% back. But you can buy stamps at some grocery stores if you're just talking about letter mail.
