I'm not saying that you're incorrect but the Smart Cash World is no longer on the application as it was 2 month's ago. Things have changed in the past few months where mbna was discontinuing the Smart Cash then bringing it back, then discontinuing and then reinstating it again. The only way to truly know, would be to apply, receive the regular card and then call in to upgrade it to the world. I would do that but I already have the world version of the Smart Cash card.
I tried yesterday again... They told me not possible... I cancelled the platinum plus card on the spot. I had that card since 2009.

I got a report on my site (HowToSaveMoney.ca) that the World edition of the card was no longer being offered which surprised me. I came here to see if others were saying the same thing. It turns out they are.

I decided to contact MBNA chat myself to get further confirmation and use very clear language. The chat rep, Julie, confirmed that card is no longer being offered to new and existing customers and is grandfather. Here is the chat log:

Chat Information

You are now being connected with Julie, an Online Application Specialist.

Julie: Hello, I am here to assist you today. May I have your name please?

you: Hi Julie, my name is Stephen
you: I have several MBNA cards and am very interested in your products.
you: I have read several reports online in the past month that the Smart Cash WORLD is no longer available to new customers.

Julie: Hi Stephen.

you: What I want to know with 100% certainty isif the Smart Cash Platinum Plus can still be upgraded to the World edition.
you: and #2) Can you still receive the World edition when you apply online if your income and credit history are good enough?

Julie: Stephen, there is no option to upgrade the card from Smart cash credit card to smart cash world credit card.
Julie: As of now MBNA Smart cash world master card.
Julie: As of now MBNA do not offer Smart cash world master card.

you: There used to be an option to do that - so are you saying that option has been completely removed? That means the card has been 100% grandfathered and there is no way for new customers to get it and existing Platinum Plus customers to upgrade?

Julie: Yes that is correct.

you: Ok, thanks for confirming that Julie.

First time in a while I checked my MBNA rewards section (had not been using the card for the longest time). Did not even realize they put limits on the cashback (even the 1% back!). Another cancellation incoming.

Is TD looking to ditch MasterCard and go to their core provider, Visa?

Got notification that they are replacing all references to anything 'Mastercard' in the terms with 'payment network'.
Which is certainly odd.

Makes sense instead of having two versions of terms. Now they will have one set that can be used with either Visa or MasterCard.

Yes, I had the same thought.
TD must be planning to launch new MBNA branded visa soon, or converting existing products to visa, in the very near future. Otherwise it's not worth it to go through the expense to mail out new documents to all accounts for such a simple wording difference - they could just include it upon renewal.

Just got the revised T&Cs. Looks like we are not covered for fraudulent transactions anymore as you need to contact your 'local law enforcement' should there be any such transactions in your statement.

Yeah, does that mean its not mastercard anymore?

And it looks like because of that there's no more Mastercard zero liability feature, which from the new policy wording seems like no protection from fraudulent use of card (without card being lost/stolen) ?

Let's hope they don't convert to VISA because then there goes your 2% grocery purchases at Walmart Supercentres.

Never heard of a CC you own being converted to another CC company. Like visa to MC or MC to visa.

I just received the new terms and conditions for my Smart Cash card but not for my World Elite. Do you think that they will also change for all other mbna cards as well?

I so hope this is not true. Can't wrap my head around "MBNA VISA".
