Wait, you can match price and get free shipping on an item from two different stores? Seems a bit odd. But if it works, sounds good to me

At default, yes, but I've read that it doesn't OC as well so if you're into extreme overclocking, go with the SB and skip IB.
I snagged the deal when it was 199.99 (note that this was after MIR, with regular being $219.99 and people like myself were able to PM ME for the price AFTER REBATE! :P) but sold the processor when I decided that the upgrade wasn't incredible. Sold for a profit, though. :PLast edited by pricecheck; Jul 18th, 2012 at 04:05 AM.

Sure you can and that's why ME has become RFDers' favorite computer store...no bullcrap price match FTW lol
Anyway, just copy and paste the following in the comment box, "PM directcanada free shipping: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=12200BD0768&vpn=BX80637I53570K&manufacture=IN TEL"
Hope this helps.

looking for some input on this cpu. I've been sitting on my case for nearly a year (not literally lol) .. finally got the mobo I wanted asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 over a month ago at the price I wanted to pay. I've been waiting and waiting for the i5 2500k to go on sale < $200 tax in. all that's left before assembling is the cpu and a cooler (which can obviously be added later)
I'm really getting antsy about it thinking it's never going to drop in price lol. I'm thinking that I only want to OC to 4.2 or 4.5 or 4.8. also waiting on a deal on the antec kuhler h20 620 or the corsair h60. I missed the last two deals on those. that being said, what's the best it can run at with the stock OEM cooler?
It's my understanding that after updating the bios this cpu will run on this mobo without issue. with what I've read on here that the 3570k will OC to what I want just fine. if that's the case, what is the benefit over and above the 2500k? I am running a stock ATI HD5830 which performs exactly as I need it to for the 3 games that I play once a month. will this cpu improve my gpu performance or something?
thanks for the input from the way more knowledgeable ones than I

antec 620 and corsair H60 are garbage, you know. Total gimmick devices with low performance due to low surface area.
You would be better off with a noctua NH-D14 or even a NH-D12 instead of using those closed loop coolers.
If you want water cooling, you want a minimum of 920 or H100. These actually have the surface area to compete against the high end air towers.
3570k requires less power. It's 77W TDP, versus 2500k, which is 95W TDP at stock voltages.

The last time I tried pm 1 place and shipping another they told me it was the last time they were letting me do this because they weren't honouring it anymore. Now the shipping can only be pm'ed if it is from the same place you are pm'ing from.

Unless you're only looking for numerical values with your OC, 3570ks oc very well. A 4.5Ghz 3570k is ~= 4.7Ghz SB CPU with IPC improvements. Add in better IGP, more native support for SATA3/USB3, official PCI-E 3.0 support, more power efficiency, and so on and it's a no brainer to get Ivy imo.
Sure you have to deal with more heat when raising vcore but it's not really a limiting factor since IB chips have a higher thermal threshold.
Edit: regarding heat (mini-rant), as long as your chip is within 10-20c tolerance of its thermal limit (that's 85-95c for IB), you're going to be fine. I see people always complaining how their temps are so high and need better cooling. I ask you, for what? When was the last time high heat made your overclock unstable? "But it will shorten the chip's lifespan," you say. I've been overclocking chips for 20 years now, none have ever fried on me because I use common sense. Even my CPUs from 10 yrs ago still work. Heat: not an issue if within safe limits.Last edited by generaltao99; Jul 18th, 2012 at 08:22 AM.

Nah SB chips are great at reaching those high clocks. Lots of folk run 5GHz on air, 24/7. IMO it's probably easier/common to reach 4.5 on IB than 5.0 on SB though.

I've got my 3570K running stable @ 4.5GHz using a Noctua NH-D14. At idle, temperatures are around 35-45 degrees most of the time.

Ordered an item yesterday. They called and said that they wanted to give me a heads up that it would be the last time they'd allow me to price match the free shipping with another competitor because the free shipping competitors usually embed that fee in their higher selling price... Can't get mad at that coz it's true... Haha oh well, good things must come to an end.
