These are relevant for server use with heavy amounts of writes (think database server) where SSDs are too unreliable. For home use they are totally irrelevant. For small business or even SOHO it's probably a good buy.

If reliability is an issue why would you not use SAS instead of going with something like this? It must be a very narrow segment of the market that would choose something like this for server applications over SAS, or just going with slower+cheaper SATA drives for value.

yeah there are applications where you use these things for fast, large space. if you need to read and write 2tb video files, you raid disks like these, not $2000 of ssds.
