yes .. collect receipts for gas, home maintenance, utilities, etc. and every few months send in copies of the receipts along with the rebate forms (which you need to request). Then 2 weeks later you get a cheque in the mail for each one. Simple enough?

Oct 12th, 2004 07:05 AM #153I was given my own login code for MY at home web-page which also articulates if I can purchase any more of a particular retailers gift cards or if I've maxed them out. Very useful.

is there a monthly fee you have to pay to join ATHOME?
i wouldnt mind buying gift cards worth $25 for 20% off, then using a couple at the store myself. not bad presents either.
whats the catch?
how do we pay to get the cards? and how fast do they mail it to us?

actually i did, but im confused, thers too much info

What does "rebated 20% of the cost at the end of the month" mean? For example, if you buy 5 cards for $125, they give you back $25 at the end of the month off the credit card? The gift cards will be billed at full price (no tax), then you get rebated 20% of the cost at the end of the month.
How much rebate do you get? What rebate do you get? I don't really understand this. Let's say I buy $100 worth of groceries in a month. And also pay $50 for phone bill and $40 for Internet bill. Is everything combined together? Or for each its own category (groceries together, utility bills together)? Do we get 20% of what we spent back? Please let me know. Each month you also get rebates where you send in your grocery receipts, home maintenance, utility receipts, gas receipts, etc. and you get a cheque in the mail 2 weeks later (pretty fast for mail in rebates!). These receipts can be from ANY store. eg. Loblaws, local supermarket for groceries, Shell, Petro Canada for gas, local telephone bill for utility, Home Depot purchases for home maintenance, etc. Here are the min. purchases for each cheque. I guess you can "stack" receipts to make the min. amount but I've never tried.
Also, it says ~$150/year membership. Can we somehow get some gift cards at 20% off during the 30 day trial before having to pay $150/year membership? Im really in this just for the gift cards, unless the rebates are actually that beneficial. I don't want to pay $150/year membership if Im just here to buy like 10 giftcards. The 20% I save will be cancelled from the membership thus making this all pointless hehe.Last edited by MtX; Oct 12th, 2004 at 10:31 AM.

Oct 12th, 2004 12:29 PM #157The ~150/year membership is prorated as to how many months you stay a member. You can try to order the gift cards right away and then wait for your refund and cancel within the 30 days and not have to pay the fee. It all depends on timing which may or may not work for you. If it doesn't the most you would have to pay is one month worth of membership fees. So take the ~150.00 and divide it by 12 (number of months) and you would only have to pay that much in membership fees total. You could then close down your account. (Approximately $12.50 or so)

Oct 12th, 2004 04:11 PM #158I don't understand how the gas thing works, $10, then $20, then $30? What if you spend $50 on gas every month, how much will you get back?

Are we allowed to stack purchases within the same category? Like Loblaws plus Price Chopper combined to make $30? Or must it strictly remain from same supermarket? What about purchases that aren't directly related. Like buying food from Walmart, but also buying a TV that's say $100. There's so many different cases.
Last thing, for the gift cards, it's $25 and you get 20 max each year for EACH STORE, or for all stores combined? Thanks.
Anyone actually in it? give us a review

Signed up today for @home via Lifestyle Phone Number.. They were having computer problems, so it took a long time. Operator started to sign me up for both Lifestyle and @home. Lucky I caught it. I did request all the rebates.. they are sending everything..Including the gas ones. *Sweet*
One thing that worried me was they wanted my Birthday with my Visa card #. Anyone run in to this? Maybe I should have used my lower limit Visa Card.
Thanks Felix and all, appricated all the good feed back or I would have never brought in to something like this. Just seems too good to be true.

Oct 12th, 2004 06:04 PM #161I gave my birthday too. It's just a way to ID you when you call, like a security question, such as your Mother's maiden name, etc.

Thanks for the link eBuddy! How did you find out?
The website works for my membership#, funny thing is, your postal code must be in CAPS or it won't work. I even tried my old membership# for fun 645xxxxxx and it says the following : "We're sorry. Your membership is no longer active." Which is correct.
Be sure to log in at least once and add your email address so you can get the special offers so you know when they add new gift cards and such. You can also order gift cards and rebates through the site, so no need to call in anymore!
I don't remember having given my bday. Maybe security question, but I don't remember. All I remember is the credit card# and expiry date part.
Updated website on original post. Also added minor details hopefully to make it more clear including :
"Gift cards/certificates are non-refundable. But trust me you won't have any problems selling to others at 20% discount! Many people buy these memberships and resell at only 10% discount. For example http://discountgiftcards.ca and http://www.discountgiftcards.info"
"All orders with a total value of $350 or less are shipped through regular Canada Post mail. Orders with a total value exceeding $350 are automatically shipped through Purolator at no extra cost."
"This essentially pays off your monthly fee! Do not confuse these with the gift cards above as they are separate."
"Purchases show up on your credit card statement as "MWI*AT HOME 866-847-7885 CD"
I placed an order for the Locksmith rebates from the site just now :-) Reading the FAQ, I came across this ...
* Online enrollees will be charged a $1.00 trial-period fee, in accordance with the terms agreed upon enrollment.
What does that mean? I guess it's still best to register over the phone? Not sure why they don't put the FAQ on the main page so people who haven't registered can read about the program too

Signed up
Hey All;
I have been watching this thread for a while and finally decided to sign up (mostly because my wife has been asking me to remodel a bathroom for a while and I would be spending over 500 at Home Depot).
So, I called the AtHome and they asked if I had received any information from them. I told them that I had not. They had no problem signing me up anyway.
I asked about the rebates available. They mentioned the home utilities, home maintenance, and Home improvements.
I then asked about the gas rebates. They said that I could have EITHER the Home Improvement rebate OR the Gas rebate.
I didnt really argue it. It seems worth it to me.

Use www.Remexgroup.com
For all you sceptical people, or small time shoppers/broke ass people (like me). Try www.Remexgroup.com. You only get 15% off their gift certificates, but it's an immediate discount off the gift card price, and there is no monthly fee.
I was trying to work it out:
- AtHome costs $139.95 +tax ($160.94) per year
- Assuming I cancel my account after 6 months I still pay $80.43 in fees
- I'm too lazy to do the receipt mailing thing for rebates, so I'm only considering gift card discounts.
- For AtHome to be better than www.Remexgroup.com I need to spend $1,625 in 5 months (I'm assuming 1 month turn around time to get my refund). And I would need to spend that amount over 4 different stores due to the $500 max per store.
I've only used Remexgroup once for discount movie tickets, but the turn around time is great, and they offer most of the gift cards that AtHome offers. Mathematically, AtHome is better if you take advantage of all the discounts, but for those that are only looking for a couple hundred dollars in gift cards give Remexgroup a look.
BTW: Does anyone know other groups that offer discounts like Remex?

Oct 13th, 2004 04:53 PM #165Remex might be ok for smaller purchases but they don't have nearly the number of stores that are available through At Home. Plus not many people are going to stay joined for the 5 months and if you sign up, order your cards and then cancel your membership right after your money is refunded at the end of the month you end up paying nothing in membership costs because it falls under the 30 day trial (which is more like a 40-45 day free trial).
