Which memory is better ???
ok im in the market for a pc upgrade. it's gonna be the MSI NEO2 Platinum with an AMD64 3500+ and a raptor and everything i have right now.
the only thing that im not sure about is the memory. i have no clue yet what to get. right now i got 2x256 Kingston hyper X OC'd on my 1800+ to 2.1Gh and everything runs sweet.
so my choice is the kingston hyper x 2x512 ($320 <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=28 target=_blank>ncix</a> bxday sale)
or 4x512 of these
Samsung 512MB PC-3200 400MHz (OEM) - $78.00
Samsung 512MB PC-3200 400MHz 16 Chips Double Sided(OEM) - $84.00
<a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=28 target=_blank>ncix</a> has them on bxday sale as well for $77.99
i do plan on oc'ing this thing but not right away,
so whats better 1GB of Bling ram or 2GB of not so bling ram
PLS help. this is the only thing i have no clue what to go with.

nah im not really a gamer, if i play i play for like a week and get rid of the game.
i just got a brand new camcorder so the plan was to use the comp for all video editing and stuff like that. i know the P4's r just sliglthy better then AMD. but i dont care, the few extra seconds i dont mind.
and i want something thats pretty high upthere so i dont have to upgrade for another two or three years.
so still same question, which memory is better.

Hi mp238. If you really want the best memory for that machine, neither of the ones you posted will do the job. Go For:
2 x OCZ PC3200 Platinum Revision 2 512
or
2 x Crucial Ballistix PC3200 512
They both got Editor's Choice awards at Anandtech:

c this is what i mean about memory there is so many choices i just cant decide
those two u posted
OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Platinum Revision 2 - 1GB (2x512MB) $367.41
Crucial Ballistix PC3200 512 (2x512) - $346.xx
they around the same price range like the hyper X so i would mind that either.
but still the question is 1GB of Bling ram better then 2GB of not so bling ram

If you don't really know what you're doing with the RAM, then 1 gig is better for you. The people who know what they do know they need the 2Gb. I would avoid OCZ - they have so many compatibility issues with some boards at the office. Including 1 Via K8T800 and even Intel 915.
I would go for the Crucial myself.

You mentioned that you plan to do overclocking, so 1gig is definitely better.
4x512 will reduce your ability to overclock dramatically, and I haven't seen any really fast 1024 megabyte dimms reviewed (to go 2x1024).
I don't know if you follow the overclocking scene at all, but with those memories I mentioned, people often get the 1.8Ghz 90nm Athlon 64 (3000+) and the 2.0 Ghz part (3200+) up to the 2.4 - 2.6 Ghz range. That is the equivalent of 3800+, even on air cooling!
