[Memory Express] [LG] 34in Curved UltraWide IPS G-Sync (34GK950G-B) - $1199.9

Lowest price yet, $1199.99 for this monitor.

I have it myself, its a really good monitor. Bought it from US few months ago for a total price (after conversion, duty, etc) of around $1250 CAD. So $1199.99 is a steal.
If going from 1080, you will most likely need to upgrade your vidcard as well.

This is probably the best 34 wide screen monitor right now.

The Alienware aw3420 has a few limitations when coupled with gsync. Wish this was a few hundred dollars cheaper.

Agreed. the monitor is a newer technology compared to similar monitors currently on the market, and the price discount is pretty big, one of the biggest I've seen in the past 1.5 years (I've been eyeing an upgrade to 1440 for that long). Still, it feels like it is overpriced - going 1080 to 1440 feels unnecessarily expensive.

That being said, the only bigger discount that I saw was the one in US only that I caught. This monitor was not available in CANADA at the time so I took the plunge and ordered from US. I am not disappointed, the monitor is very good and I like it a lot.

Here is comparison between this and similar monitors that I considered before biting a bullet and buying LG for around $1200-$1250CAD (everything in):

I think the freesync version probably better for the extra 24hz and not limited to Nvidia cards. It's $50 more at $1249.

Good price, this is possibly the best UW monitor available right now. Be warned that this is only a 1 year warranty.

Disagree. Alienware runs native 120hz without overclocking + HW Gsync still has it's benefits for Nvidia cards + Much better QC of panels and 3 year no questions Warranty + Try building computer that will benefit from that extra HZ unstable overclocking . AW3420 is much smarter choice if you consider the LG price in this thread.

Yeah the Freesync version is better in almost everyway, considering that Gsync will work with both anyway.

This monitor most likely uses the same panel as the AW3420DW.
34" LG 34GK950G-B

The panel should be a LM340UW5 which is native 144hz and supports DCI 98% and ~135% sRGB. It is the only panel that matches the specs of both the LG and AW monitors. Both are most likely locked to 120hz for the G-Sync module.

By comparison, the old AW3418DW used a LM340UW4 panel.

If both of them are the same price, the AW3420DW monitor is better due to 3 year warranty (+ zero dead pixel guarantee).

There is one big difference between the LGK K950G and the Alienware AW3420DW, it is the panel bit depth... Alienware has 8-bit while the LG 950G is 10-bit.

Asus 348Q - LG W2 Panel
Acer X34 - LG W2 Panel
Acer X34P - LG W4 Panel
Alienware AW3418DW - LG W4 Panel
Alienware AW3420DW - LG W5 Panel
LG 950G - LG W5 Panel

Well yes the LG is technically an 8bit + FRC, but that qualifies it for HDR400 certification.
Something worthwhile noting.

On the flip side, you can get the LG 34GK950F ($1250) variant with the full native 144hz panel, and tested to work with G-Sync.

Yes the 34GK950F seems to be a better choice at $1250 and possible lower for BF. I just bought AW3418DW but I will keep an eye on the 34GK950F as well.

I'm on the fence about moving from dual monitors to a single ultrawide. I'm mostly gaming with a little bit of streaming, are ultrawides able to split a game window(fullscreen or otherwise) with a browser/OBS?

Why not both? I got an UW + a 27inch sidepiece.

Don't think my setup could handle both unfortunately -_-

What's your video card? If you got anything north of a RTX 2070 or 5700XT you be fine. These 34 inch UWs are good for multitasking, but they're not a replacement for two monitors. For that, you'd need to get someting like a Samsung CRG90 49inches of glory.

Oh i meant my desk real estate. I have a 1080 TI so i could definitely run both, but don't have the physical room for both. But since ultrawides aren't a replacement for two monitors, i guess i'll just stick with my monitors.

AW3420 was $1214 +10% cashback just yesterday . No, it's not a better choice. Even now it's $1214 + 6% Ebates +3% dell cash back that beats $1250 price of LG.

Not sure if a separate monitor arm would help with the desk real estate issue.
My AW3418DW took up a lot of space with the full metal stand. A single desk arm mount helped save a lot of space.

The better choice is referring to specs and comparison to the G, G-sync variant.

Tradeoffs:
LG F variant: 144hz native, supports g-sync unofficially, 8bit + FRC panel, HDR400 (400nits peak brightness)
AW3420DW: 3 year warranty, better price, g-sync official support (120hz limit)
