You should be able to check MagicGate compatibility with a PC and any MS reader no?
Perhaps not directly (?) but if you use SonicStage and try to put music on an MS, if it doesn't support MagicGate, it won't work. Or wait, can you go from SS --> Card Reader --> MS at all? (I'm not sure.) You might need an audio device that supports MS instead of a card reader, which would make this more difficult.
Edit: Okay I checked in SS and it does say that you should be able to transfer to an MS using a card reader. However I tried with my MS in my digital camera, and connected it and SS doesn't see it so it might have to be in a card reader I guess. Still according to what it says in SS Help, you should be able to verify MagicGate with a card reader and SS, instead of requiring a PSP.

So most of us know 99.9% of the cards on ebay are fake. What ide like to know is how much they cost to get in Hong Kong? Doubt I would pay the $100+ it costs for legit ones in Australia. Fake ones probably sell for like $2 in HK, wouldn't mind getting a bunch without some ****** ebay seller making a huge profit.

Fakes Fakes Fakes.... No matter how Sony or Sandisk or Kingston incorporate security feature to ensure that their product is Genuine, it gets cracked. The factories in China are getting so professional that they make a product SOOOO identical that it is even difficult for experienced people to differentiate it at a glance (unless when compared side by side with a genuine product).
So for us ordinary users, it's definitely gonna be very difficult to identify such fakes.
There are lot of fake Kingston / Sony / Sandisk flash cards at the pacific mall... Yes, their incredibly low prices should already ring a bell...
Richashit says he doesn't mind as long as 1Gb is 1Gb.... Wait till he tries to load 1Gb data on his card... it will show 1Gb, but probably it's only 256Mb remarked to 1Gb... system will show 1Gb, but only 256Mb data will go in.... Some of you may not believe this, but I have seen this first hand....
Nothing is impossible in China, if they can capture a US F-16, they will probably have a fleet of them in next couple of years....

I need some confirmation if I bought a fake one or not. Although, my I'm already 99.9% sure that the Sandisk I bought is a fake, I still a .1% doubt.. >_>
Anyways, I bought it from this guy over here
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAP...k&myworld=true
Here are some pics of the memory stick:

1. I compared it with a picture off Newegg and I noticed that the little "R" symbol next to the Sandisk letters is not there. In place of the "R" is that little sandisk symbol.
2. I'm not sure if its like this with the official once but the maximum space of the stick is 3877. So if anyone has an official 4gb sandisk memory stick pro duo, are the capacity the same?
3. I tried to put it on the stick reader in my PS3 and it BARELY fits, it can barely fit inside and getting it back out is a bit of a pain.
4. The "E" in Magic Gate is almost rubbed off.
5. I transfered a 250 meg file and it took about 5 minutes to transfer. Not sure if thats fast or not.Last edited by Harbor; Jun 7th, 2007 at 06:31 PM.

It definitely looks fake. The colour isn't the same as the genuine SanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo I have. My memory stick is a darker blue than the one in your picture.
The picture from NewEgg is misleading since the close-up picture of the memory stick is not correct. The card should like like the one in the plastic packaging in the second picture.
The capacity of my SanDisk reads 4,094,623,744 bytes from Windows.
To test the transfer speed of your memory stick, you should try using HDTach from here. It is free to use and tests the burst and average read speeds. Just select the drive letter which corresponds to your card reader that you're using.
Let us know how your card does to see if there is any difference.

I wonder if the icct one is fake? Selling for $30 less than other retailers. Seems a bit fishy.

FutureShop has the 4GB SONY MSPD on sale this week for only $99. I think FS has a better supplier than some of those fishy stores

4GB Capacity
Can anyone tell me if there are 2 different capacities of the Sony 4gb Pro Duo card? I have one that shows 3839MB, magicgate compatible on the PSP and the other one says 3870MB, magicgate compatible as well. I tried rubbing it, stratching at it, but the paint won't come off (on the 3870MB one), which should mean its real. It looks different from my own one (which I know is real, as its the one from the Rogers Promo). Everything on it seems legit. So any thoughts?
Sorry for bringing up an old thread, can't seem to find the answer.Last edited by KrazyGal; Nov 28th, 2007 at 02:59 AM.

Sony 2gb Memory Stick Pro Duo| High Speed
Sorry for bumping an old thread but I really want to find out if I have purchased a fake memory card or not. I have some evidence of the card and the benchmark test here below. I just came across this post after I brought my card. I thiught that it may be a good idea to check on the web if there are discussions about cards being fake. The card looks mint, only brought it yesterday for £12 from eBay. I shouldn't trust them but for this one time i'd thought i'll give it a go.
The user has 99.9% rating, PowerSeller since 2007. Location from the UK and shipped from the UK (got delivery the day after delivery which was quick).
These are a few pictures of the memory card. BTW it didn't come in any packaging because the user said it is cheaper to send without so it came in an anti-static small case and bubble wrapped envelope. (?)

And I have done this test using HDTach on Long Bench [32mb zones]
This is the result I got. I used the memory card reader through the HP Printer whic has a card reader. My USB version is 2.0. Are these results showing it as a High Speed or what?

I also have formatted the card to check the exact memory it has. The results came out to 2,043,117,568 bytes [1.90GB]
I also did another check in which I uploaded 929mb's of files onto the memory card and it timed out to take 22 minuites. These are Photo's, Video's, Songs, A few mobile games. Is that fast or slow for a High Speed because it didn't really impress me taking 22 mins. Maybe I may be underestimating the speed. Who knows for real?
The memory stick that came with it was a Sony one but that doesn't really look original as I compared it with an original SanDisk adapter and the writing on the back is much sharper than the Sony one which seems to be blured a bit. The adapter doesn't worry me a tiny bit as I don't need it but the memory stick is my need. £12 isn't a lot but the last time I payed £20 for a 4gb Sony, I didn't get the item Or my money.
ALSO note this because I need some help finding out. The number on the back of the card reads MSX-M2GS (S's being slanted) and 'apparently' the High-Speed card is supposed to read MSX-M2GN and the NORMAL 2gb Sony is supposed to read MSX-M2GS. Is this true?
Sorry for the long essay. :PLast edited by KillerNo99; Apr 18th, 2008 at 11:21 AM.

Using a psp
Well one really easy method of finding out if your mspd is genuine or not is to put it in a psp (slim/fat).
-put memory stick pro duo (any gb) inside psp
-go to games, and hover (don't click) the "MEMORY STICK" button
-press triangle
-if it says "MAGICGATE UNKNOWN" then, congratulations! you have a fake memory stick. If it says SUPPORTED, then your lucky, you have a real one
