not really, it looks like the average computer not at an average price.. that dell system deal was good.. this is just average, you can find it almost anywhere..

you should custom build your own computer, itll probably be around $1000-$1200 for a decent system.

Some home and business applications. Also would like the option to game (ie would like to have medium end video card). Somrthing that wont go out of style in in 3 years.

Budget is $1200 incl shipping and gst.

NCIX? Tiger direct? Canada computers? Suggestions greatly appreciated.

if u dont mind getting a used system, u can get a really nice one from the BST!

but if you want new, just get a mobile athlon 2600, nforce2 motherboard, 1gb ram, 2x80 or 1x60 hdd, 9800 pro 128..

Hello,

Thanks for the tips.

Im a little computer illiterate when it comes to building this stuff... kinda need specifics. Dont mean to be difficult but if i know exactley what to get it helps me immensely. Please advise.

If you want a customized system built for you, Memory Express isn't a bad choice. Their prices aren't always the lowest around, but they do back it up with good tech support should you encounter any problems later on.

Remember that if you buy a system from out of town (NCIX, Tigerdirect), support might become an issue since you can't just drop off your computer at their local store.

If you decide to get the system from Memx, get it from sales Raymond. He's a friend of mine, nice guy and knows his stuff.

Thanks. Spoke with him yesterday. Will ask for him if we go with MX.

I'd probably get something like this:

Processor : AMD Sempron 3100+ w/ 256K Cache (Retail Box - Socket 754) $174.95
Motherboards : Asus K8N-E Deluxe w/ 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, 1394, Dual SATA RAID $184.95
Memory : Micron Original 512MB PC3200 DDR400 $134.95
Case : Antec Sonata w/ TruePower 380W $134.95
Hard Drives 1 : Seagate 120GB Barracuda 7200.7 Serial ATA 8MB Cache $124.95
Optical Drive 1 : Pioneer DVR-108 16x16 DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive, Black (OEM - No Software) $109.95
Video Cards : Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600XT 256MB w/ TV-Out, DVI (LITE Retail) $259.95
Sound Cards : Onboard 8-Channel 7.1 Audio
Ethernet Cards : Onboard 10/100/100 Gigabit Lan
Assembly : Please Assemble Hardware $30.00
Warranty : Memory Express 1 Year Parts and Labour Warranty

That'd put you right at about $1200, though I'd probably go with a 9800Pro video card, sometimes you can still find them for $250.

The Sempron 3100+ is an awesome value processor, it has the advantage of on chip memory controller (meaning fast) that the Athlon 64's have, and apparently can overclock like crazy if you ever want to get into that:

The ASUS motherboard is nice and has tons of features. I like the ones based on the nVidia chipset.

512MB should be ok.

Antec Sonata case is truely amazing for the price, I've never used a better case at that price point.

I went with just a 120GB drive because in the future you could get another 120GB drive and set up RAID 0 which would give you a nice speed boost.
