[Staples] 3D 27" LG Monitor/TV for $297 at Staples (1 day sale) Hot?

Just got this in my email. Seems like a good deal, I would bite if I hadn't bought a 27" monitor a few months ago.... From the reviews it appears it comes with the wrong 3D glasses, which may explain the price. Also it is a one day sale.

http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_s ... bid=455637

27" display
1920 x 1080 resolution
5ms response time
Dynamic contrast ratio of up to 7,000,000:1 delivers vivid colours and deep blacks
More than two times brighter than conventional 3D Monitors
LG 3D technology is able to counteract any dimness that can occur within 3D images through a special, thin film that covers the screen
3D Effect Mode sharpens the boarders of dark images allowing clearer 3D picture quality and greater depth in 3D
CINEMA 3D glasses are battery-free, generate no harmful electron waves and weigh only 16 grams—almost half the weight of conventional 3D glasses
LG clip-on type of 3D glasses allow the bespectacled to enjoy 3D content easily
Enjoy various 2D contents—films, pictures, games and even TV broadcasting in 3D views
Dimensions: 16.0"(H) x 25.3"(W) x 2.1"(D)
Weight: 11 lb.

$297 (regular $499)

Comes with three year warranty fyi. Does anyone know if this is 120Hz? I'm guessing it is because of 3D

Is this a TV or a monitor? It appears to be a TV.

In the past there was a big difference. I once tested about 6 1080p TVs (22 to 32") from the cheapest to the most expensive and they all failed as monitors. From my experience, around 46" the tv actually displays "crisp" pixels.

This was a couple of years ago so the market may have changed. buyer beware.

It doesn't look like it has a TV tuner so it's just a monitor.

I can't find more information on this display anywhere. Checked multiple pages of Google and LG Canada including their support section, nothing.

Monitor ships with incorrect 3D glasses that turns everything purple. You need to back and forth with LG to get the correct glasses.
It uses passive 3D and is 60Hz that drops to around 24Hz in 3D.

Nothing special here. This was never a $500 screen... And at $300 with issues, I wouldnt touch it with a 10ft pole...especially not with the Korean 2560x1440 IPS screens available.
I aim to be inclusive and considerate of others in my posts. If I fall short of that mark, feel free to let me know in good faith, and where appropriate, I'll edit my posts.

last I looked, the absolute cheapest 27" monitors sell for $250, so 299 for LG brand and 3D doesn't seem bad to me.

What about the catleap/korean/ebay monitors?

IPS vs TN
2560x1440 vs 1920x1080

I guess this monitor is a decent deal if you stack a coupon and are going to use it as a computer monitor and as a TV and 3D is important to you.

Or if you don't want to buy off ebay. $700 plus if you buy 2560x1440 locally. I believe this will change soon though given that the new 10" ipad can do ~2500x1400.

Staples has a one day sale (20th of August, 2012 only) as mentioned in other thread but the deal on LG monitor was not mentioned. it's worth to mention in a seperate thread if somebody looking a decent 27" monitor.
