Aeroplan Star Challenge is back!

Image

Basic premise is that you do a series of challenges/tasks to get bonus points on your account.

There are some big differences this year from last year though! Full terms and conditions are here.
Some big points to note:
- Redemption thresholds are different from last year
- Conversion transactions from points.com are excluded from this promotion.
- There is a minimum transaction of $10 so no more going to Esso and filling up $3 at a time. Also 1 transaction per day per retailer.
- There is a new social media element for collecting
- You can also text your entry to get your first star

Qualifying dates are March 7th to April 10th, 2013.
Good luck!

Wow lots of restrictions. If I spent more than $10 everyday at retailer than I will be able to hit that target :)

Guys please post work around

I wish they bring back the esso->aeroplan 3?:1 transfer
It's there, but looks like limited to once per day. :(

I have 7 accounts to work on...$3 squirts for each account is not going to be fun as I only have 4 speedpasses, the other 3 will have to be manual swipes of the AP card....blecch.

They added minimum points xfer per transaction by the end of the promo, probably still there now.

yea the restrictions hurt a lot b/c no more going to esso and doing minimum purchases. the big one is the points.com transfer that everyone did last time to convert things like their old esso extra points

This deal is nerfed.

only 1 transaction per day per partner and it has to be 10 dollars

you can get 9 points on Facebook but that only brings you to 91 stars remaining (ie. 46 esso 10 dollar pumps = impossible for 35 days)

here is how to get to 50+ stars at least:
- register with mobile (1 Star)
- 20 days of esso $10 fill ups ($200 gas/35 days isn't crazy for those with two cars) - 40 stars
- social media (9 stars)
- converting other points (I have some CIBC aventura points) - 9 stars
- 2-4 purchases at costco.ca (they always have good deals) - 6 stars
- 5 purchases at sobeys (groceries) - 10 stars

That's a total of 75 stars - for those with a CIBC or AMEX that's linked to aeroplan, you should get the other 25 relatively easy if you complete their "challenges"

I even travel a lot and I figure its impossible for me. The amount of stuff you need in 35 days is not realistic and the difference between 50 stars and 100 stars in points doesn't make it worth while. Maybe 5000 points for 50 stars or something but a measly 2000, no thanks.

9 points maximum for converting point: does it mean 9 points per program, or 9 points max overall for any conversion?

Wow, the more I look at this, the trickier it is.

Even with easy stars making up 25%, this will be hard to hit.

I have an Aerogold Visa = 5
Will spend $1000 on Visa = 2
Facebook points = 9
Convert Club Carlson = 9
==================
My total easy points = 25

That still means I need 75 points. That's 38 $10 transactions! Unless I figure out an easier way, that's waaaaay too much screwing around for some miles.
