I can't even believe that the CEO even considered this. And his claim about no passenger in history getting on board with less than a British pound on him is non-sense. I hate carrying cash. I always pay by credit card, or debit as a last resort.
God forbid an RFDer gets on one of their flights. They'd probably end up taking a dump next to the cockpit door, or pissing in their beverage cup, in protest!

[I]Ryanair’s chief executive said Europe’s largest budget carrier might start charging passengers for using the toilet while flying, but his spokesman cautioned Michael O’Leary often just made things up at will.
“One thing we have looked at in the past and are looking at again is the possibility of maybe putting a coin slot on the toilet door so that people might actually have to spend a pound ($1.43) to spend a penny in future,” O’Leary told BBC television.
He said this would not inconvenience passengers traveling without cash. “I don't think there is anybody in history that has got on board a Ryanair aircraft with less than a pound.”
A spokesman said the airline had considered the fee as a possible source of extra revenue since passengers had the option of not using the toilet on board, but added that “maybe O’Leary was just taking the p—ss this morning.”
“Michael makes a lot of this stuff up as he goes along and while this has been discussed internally there are no immediate plans to introduce it,” Stephen McNamara said in a statement.
O’Leary has a reputation as a cost-cutter, expanding Ryanair by offering low headline fares and charging extra for items such as additional luggage.
Last week, Ryanair announced it was to shut all check-in desks at airports and have passengers check in online instead.
“We’re all about finding ways of raising discretionary revenue so we can keep lowering the cost of air travel,” he said.

Last year I flew that airline several times while in Europe with my daughter. It is really a very low budget airline. Most of the airports they fly into are so far from the city that you end up losing money on cabs to get there. We ended up paying the equivalent of $180 Cdn to fly from the hotel in Brussels to the airport and we had to be there at some ridiculous time in the morning.
On some level I liked the airline but I would never fly them again as in order to save money on their flights we lost a lot of money on getting to and from their airports. Also, they don't assign seats. It's basically run to the plane and grab the first seat you can. If you want to pay an extra amount, I think it was like $6 or something, you could move to the front of the line, thus enabling you to get a better seat, possibly. It was very strange, to say the least.
What I did like was they didn't waste time and each and every flight we took with them left at the exact time it was supposed to, or maybe even a bit earlier.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked deltone for this post.

When I saw the thread title, I knew right away it was this airline. Considering they already charge people to use public restrooms in Europe (even inside malls), this seems like the next step.

Simply do your "business" in the 'barf bag' and give it to the flight attendant once you are finished.

You have to remember that these flights are 2-3 hours on average. Many much less. I dont agree with the comment that no passenger has every flown with less then a pound. I did, you can't get coins at a bank before you fly out to England.
Keep in mind that even long distance greyhound style buses in Europe have their bathrooms locked. They make stops every few hours.
This idea is stupid, why don't they just put a seat belt on the toilet and charge someone 1 pound + taxes???LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked GangStarr for this post.

I would suspect that Ryanair will quickly learn that the cost of the installation and maintenance of the coin systems will exceed the revenues.
However, if they really think they are on to something, why not add coin-operation for the "Call" button, air vent, window blind and oxygen mask.

Do you have time to do that in case of emergency?
I thought fiddling with your coin purse, and looking for exact change is the last thing on your mind when the plane is plunging down at high altitude.
Finally, Ryanair give new meaning to the word airbus, literally.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked whampoa for this post.

Can we pricematch it with washrooms on ground that are cheaper and get 10% difference?

So you end up eating some bad food on the plane, you end up using the washroom 2-3 times and you have to pay $1 each time?
And talk about those that want some action in the washroom ... jeez, now they gotta pay for the service ;)
I think the high price you pay to get on the plane covers the toilet. That's just an assumption though._______________
