The S-6xx is a better value than S-4xx because you get much more cooking area for not a lot more money. I decided to go S-4xx because there are only 3 people in my family so I really don't need the extra space except maybe once a year.
If you're interested in indirect cooking, some Weber models have longitudinal burners and some have horizontal ones. Longitudinal (parallel to the short side) is better for indirect.
There is also the question of whether to pay for the wood chip smoker. I bet people don't use this nearly as much as they think they will at purchase time.

It says it has a 50 BTU main on the Sears website....it may be last years model or something. The front of it is black, not steel like the one on Broil King website.
Sears has a separate listing for the 44 BTU and the 50 BTU main burner Crown 40.
Can anyone confirm what is going on...thanks

For indirect cooking, you want the burner to be as far away as possible from the food. With longitudinal burners, you can turn the rightmost burner on and put the food on the far left. With horizontal ones, the food is 6" from the burner.

any love for a HD special? it doesn't have to be HD, but i have some gift cards to spend there. I have enough room as of tomorrow to actually have a bbq (getting a new place to live). the Q is the next priority ... before even moving.
Looking around $299 area, propane fueled. don't care about rotiss or extra stuff. just a grill.
thanks for any tips

Most people seem to be happy with the $299 broil mate at home depot.

Unfortunately you missed the sale last week, they were 20% off. I picked one up for $239. Haven't assembled it yet._______________
