i have never heared of a contract that allows somebody to alter the contract at free will. the only way i'd go back to bell is if they through in a new car with whatever garbage retention plan they offer.
This seems like sketchy standard practice for some corporations. Had this happen to me from CitiFinancial after buying stuff at Leon's and "don't pay for 18 months" but then after 3 months they slip in a one-liner in the paper bill (that no one reads as it is "$0.00" for 18 months) announcing a membership charge of 21$. I wrote in and they were courteous enough to revoke the charge at least so good for that part. FutureShop does the same with their credit card plans etc....

I think that another good indicator how bad bell is at retentions is the lack of a hot deals thread for retentions. Rogers, Fido, and Telus all have one. As a bell customer it is very frustrating. I have two months left in a pretty decent plan but when I call them to try and see what they can do for me they keep telling me how good my plan is. The only way to get a good plan on bell is to try and join the scammers that are somehow getting a corporate plan they don't belong to. Howardsforum had a thread for a great plan.

Last week I called and cancelled my iPhone (due to issues I was having with Bell). I asked a supervisor to speak to Retentions, and he said he could cancel my phone right there. He called my bluff, and wouldn't cut me a discount even though Bell has made a major boo boo with iPhones in my region.
So my phone was set for cancellation 30 days from telling them I wanted to cancel. Fine.
Next day I call back in and decide to "un-cancel" my phone and plan.
One week later I get a card in the mail saying they are sorry I decided to terminate my account with them, and to contact their Customer Care line for exclusive offers and discounts. I called for the heck of it. The CSR knew I called in and reactivated, but just for coming back to them, Bell gave me free Call Display for 3 years ($7/month).
I don't have the exact customer care phone # on me since I'm at work, but I will post it later. For a 3 minute phone call to receive over $250 in savings isn't all that bad. Probably if I kicked up a fuss I could have got more in savings.
Just wanted to inform people of this just in case they call retentions who won't budge and do cancel your phone. Wait for the Customer Care Card in the mail and call away.

No, I have always had caller ID, but it's a $7/month feature. By them giving it to me for free for 3 years is a savings, but we're not talking thousands in savings. Since Bell has such crap customer service I was surprised they'd even offer anything toward a discount.

I did the same...phone and internet. They were like ok. But then the letters started about a month later telling me I was a valued customer. Why they did not want to play when I was a customer? Still will not go back!

I have a Bell question..
I have just under 2 years left on a 3 year contract. I don't need my personal phone anymore because my work has given me one to use for personal calls. However, I would like to keep my personal phone number, and just have a pay per minute plan for the odd occasion that I can't use my work phone.
What will Bell charge me to switch from a 30/month plan to a pay as you go type plan? What if I just terminate my contract early and switch to another provider?
To finish the remaining 2 years of the contract around 700 bucks for a phone plan I have no need for.
I would just call them now, but of course the times when I am free to call bell customer service is closed.

That's actually pretty good. I'm officially free from Bell as of 1 week ago!
My current terrible plan is:
100 local minutes
unlimited text, internet browsing, voicemail, caller ID
My 5 "Nationwide" unlimited calling
and all adds up with the service fees and miscellaneous charges to $59.XX. So yeah, I'm busy shopping around right now, I'm going to try retentions tommorrow but I'm not holding my breath.

Called Bell today - they offered to discount my plan by a whopping $7.50 IF I signed another three year contract. Either that or I could change plans and reduce my cost by $5 but I'd lose the nationwide unlimited calling to five numbers and mobile browser too. Yea right.
Those kind of offers don't even give me much ammo to try doing better with other carriers.

Funny that you say that cause at least you were offered a price reduction. I called and they told me that I'll be getting unlimited incoming if I sign for 3 yrs. I told them that sounds good but let me decide by the end of the week. Same day, actually within an hour I call back and the "offer" is no longer valid even though it was written on my account. Long store short, after 9 years, the only privilege they were offering is for me to remain in a REGULAR priced plan with no rebates. My last months bill was $101 and I don't even have data.
Bell is a JOKE!!!

LOL Bell is hilarious.
I was considering the Palm Pre last Sept, and wanted to upgrade. They said I would have to pay full price. ($700 or something).
The funny thing was, I could get out of the current contract for only $200. This essentially made it $300 cheaper to get out of the contract and then get the phone through a new account at subsidized rates.
I'd had enough of dealing with them in the past though, bought out the contract and switched to rogers.
Now I'm getting a way better deal anyway.

No kidding. I just e-mail our corp bell rep with a cheaper plan in this week Bestbuy flyer about mobile browser option. And the reply was
The below offer is not available while being on the XXXXXX plan.
The offers are for regular consumer clients ONLY, generally anything outside of XXXXXX can take advantage of it.

Bell service is just sucks! It fails to explain when I can get a better deal as a "general public" customer than with company's corporate plan. And one of the guy even say since I work at such and such company I *have* to order from [corporate website] online.
Gosh, what's stopping me if I order it at other store as a "general public" and actually cost less?
