kind of cold to me ...
It's free on a 3 year contract and you need to keep the VOICE & DATA for 3 years (really sucks if after 3 months you decide that you like having the phone as a PDA but really don't use the data much ...

From what I read from the Telus FAQ's you are obligated to keep the data portion for a minimum 12 months on a 36 months contract, if you do not it's a $100 charge.

If you choose to terminate your service before the end of the term, you will be required to pay (as liquidated damages and not as a penalty) a cancellation charge for each terminated phone number in addition to all other amounts then due to TELUS Mobility. The cancellation charge will be the greater of:
- $20 multiplied by the number of months remaining in the term, or
- $100
If you subscribe to a data service with an email feature and cancel that service within the first 12 months of a 36 month service agreement, an additional cancellation charge of $100 will apply. The cancellation charge must be paid whether the service is terminated by TELUS Mobility or you.

So even if you cancel the data plan after 1 month, it is still a good deal. $100 for a BB Pearl 8130.

Thanks for the info - I hadn't realized that it's only $100 (which would actually make this a pretty good deal as others have pointed out) but I'd confirm that it's all you have to pay (the Telus FAQ specifies an 'additional $100' for data plans - maybe that means that you pay the cancellation fee on the data plan (i.e. $15-$20/month + an extra $100). It would be worth checking into.

next year the prices of cellphone plans will drop dramatically. signing for a 3 year contract right now isn't very smart.
unless of course you need this blackberry or you don't really care.
