This is a good app for Canada.
Is there a similar app for iPhone that allows making calls and receiving calls in the U.S. For free?

There are free US calling app http://www.nettalk.com/smartphone , gmail/google voice/gtalk by using talkatone (iOS), Groove IP (Android). If you have your own Google Voice US number then you can receive call with talkatone or Groove IP.

How did the "Talk Freely To The World" claim even make it into the title? Their international calling rates are non-zero.

I installed it to my android tablet. It's really good. The voice quality is good, I can make and receive calls, and it has voicemail.

I get a black screen on my android (LG Optimus One) like a few others have mentioned on here. It only occurs when you make a call though... as if there's an issue with the proximity sensor settings.

This obviously doesn't work with the UMB SO offers right? Since they started blocking the ports?

SIP Client for Android - FreePhoenLine (Fongo)
Personally, I prefer "cSipSimple" which is an open source plug-in that adds VOIP to your existing Android phone dialer. It is not a client. You continue to dial using the same interface, contacts, etc as you would normally. However, whenever you have WiFi active, cSipSimple automatically gives you the option to connect to the number that you are dialing via VOIP (for free) or via your cell provider.

I've been using cSipSimple with FreePhoneLine for almost a year and it works great. It even works at McDonalds and Starbucks WiFi hotspots. I even have it installed on a spare Android phone that has no SIMM. As soon as I activate WiFi, the phone acts as if it has a SIMM and dials out, receives calls, etc all through the FreePhoneLine account.
For my tablets I use "3CXPhone" which works amazingly well and has a host of advanced features. Again, I use it with FreePhoneLine and it also works well from McDonalds and Starbucks hotspots.
