I saw this at BB the other day for $1680ish.. The picture is amazing... it's so much better then any other tv on the market. The picture is so good that it looks like it's 3d. If you're considering another purchase, you must see this set with your own eyes!

come on guys...for $800 more you can purchase a TRUE 1080p HD 42" LCD tv which will give full HD viewing. The ultimate choice for hd tv to go with your (or future purchase ) HD dvd player.

Sure 1080p would be awesome, but in a 42" you would hardly be able to tell the difference from 720p (uh oh.. I'm going to get flamed now)
For me, a $2300 TV busts the bank. I wanted to find a good 37" for under 1500. I was going to go with the LG 37LC2D but then after reading forums for about 6 hours last night I found out that there is all this weirdness with that model. There are different revisions with different hardware specs (UD vs UE), 1 vs 2 HDMI, 1 vs 2 RF inputs, and 1024x768 or 1366x768 PC input, and some have very bad light bleeding in the edges, and they are all called 37LC2D. When it was a 400 difference between LG and Sharp I was going to try the LG, but for the extra 200 off with a PM, why not go with the best brand. Sharp Aquos all the way baby.
I have calibrated my TV now.. here are what I consider to be my optimal settings.
Picture Mode = STANDARD
OPC = ON
Backlight - I set mine at 0 which is STD, now further down in advanced you'll have the OPC set for a range, so the backlight autoadjusts depending how bright/dark your room is.
Contrast +30
Brightness -6
Colour +2
Tint 0
Sharpness +2
ADVANCED
Colour Temp = Mid-High (I found the reds too much at middle, but adjust to how you like)
Black = Level Expansion ON
I/P Setting = slow
Film Mode = Off
Monochrome = Off (This will turn your TV Black and White if you turn it on)
Range of OPC = Max +6, Min -2, I seem to like this, I can't tell it adjusts anymore with these settings, the default is -16 and +16 but that can get distracting when it is adjusting depending on room lighting. The sensors on the front of the TV detect this, if you set the first OPC setting to ON-display and shine a flashlight in there you'll see leaves on screen as it changes the backlighting. I was testing to see how it works. You can also flip back and forth between your min and max OPC range on the Advanced screen and watch it change. Set for the brightest and darkest you would want it for your room.
Pros - Best looking cabinet, no bleeding, VGA input works great at 1360x768 with my 360, the dynamic contrast and ambient light sensors are pretty cool, also AQUOS = bragging rights.
Cons - No PiP, Built in speakers are pretty weak (although I have surround so it's not a problem for me), only 1 yr warranty compared to LG's 2 yrs, and the remote is just a cheap feeling lump of plastic (the LG remote is much better) but I use a Harmony.. so it's all good.

is there VGA input on this tv? for the guys who have this tv, would you be able to measure the exact viewing area in inches? i wanna know if its 37'' dead on or falls bit short. Diagonal corner to corner. thx

Im very vvvvvvvvery tempted to return my Viewsonic 37'' and upgrade for this tv. Hmm is the extra $500 worth it to jump to this tv? I hear Aquos are #1 in the world for LCDs in terms of pic quality. I sure love that piano black finish.
Does this tv come with an adjustable stand? Meaning can tilt the display bit upwards.... Reply With Quote

I was looking at these TVs with "piano black" finish (Samsung/Sharp) and I am concerned that if there is any light in the room, it will start reflecting off the super shiny edges hampering the view... In the store I was completely distracted by the shine! Originally Posted by MrKat

My bro in law has the 40'' Samsung in piano black, and its mounted on his wall and it wasnt distracting at all. It looks so elegant, though I wouldnt pay more just for the piano finish, its not a big issue to me, black is black...as long as its black and not cheap silver Originally Posted by Malfunction
