Actually they never asked me for my credit card, all you have to do is register with them, and then log in and download the setup file, and you're done!

AV Comparatives is an independent tester of antivirus software. Go to "Comparatives" and check their latest "Online results" and "Reports".

For antivirus, AVIRA#1 for detection and it is FREE.

However, NOD32 (not free) gets the highest certification level because it had fewer false positives.

I use both, NOD32 on the laptop, AVIRA on the desktop (64bit). Both are very light and not resource hogs.

Try Avast. It is way less bloated and a good free AntiVirus program. Doesn't hog RAM.

the free one year subscription is nice but if the free ones run better and use less RAM, I'm in.

I got Norton with my laptop and it hogs all the resources possible.

I think I am going to try Zone Alarm Internet Security. I have used Zone Alarm for years and I like it.

Is avira as agressive at killing viruses as Norton is? I'm using a 90 day free version of norton antivirus and though I was really skeptical about using Norton (and it does take some resources but not TOO much) I find that it is EXTREMELY good at quashing all threats... Honestly. I was surprised.

Also, the version of Avira tested on that AV Comparatives site is the PREMIUM version, so it is NOT FREE... I wonder what the difference is between the free and paid premium?
