For what its worth...there is a firmware patch out there for the N7 that puts the Camera/Video app back onto the device so you can actually use it. The stock release of N7 purposely locks out the use of the camera for anything but video chatting. Pretty silly since most people dont video chat. You'd think the logical choice between either having a front or rear camera would be obvious  ... Oh, and to top it off the camera out of the box is not set to use 720p. You will need another special patch that is out there to unlock the full potential of the camera too.
I had a Nexus 7 and the camera was not locked for video chatting only. I took pictures / sent picture messages through Kakao Talk and Facebook Messenger all the time. And in Kakao Talk I remember being able to easily adjust the amount of pixels used for the image.

Just a reminder that If you are a Optimum Card member, you might have received a coupon booklet, one coupon is 25% off all regular price items with $30 or more purchase, the 25% off coupon is good until March 8th. Also, from March 2nd to 4th, it has a promotion of 18,500 bonus point with $75 purchase, so the 32G Nexus 7 is 25% off regular price $269 with coupon, plus you get 18,500 bonus points (worth $25) if you buy between March 2-4, that virtually makes the 32G Nexus 7 below $180 + tax. I just bought one today for $202 + tax and received 18,500 bonus points, I think that was a very good price, just to remind RFDers who also have the 25% off coupon.

Picked one up today. Used 25% off coupon and got the full 25% off (not just up to $50), also used $170 worth of optimum points (had to add some filler to get my bill over $50). Still worth it in the end.

It must be a regional difference. All the SDMs near me never have more than a tiny bit of tech stuff.
