Does anyone know how long the Car battery can power the dash cam on idle mode?

Will people be leaving it on their windshield while parked (parking mode) or removing it and stashing it while parked?

I leave it. For me, the whole point is to have something that is low/no maintenance. If I had to remove and re-install it every time I drove, it would probably spend more time in my glove box than on the windshield. Especially since I don't drive that much or very far, I'd be spending a large chunk of my time in the car removing/installing it.

Depends on the area I'm in. I'll be removing mine daily on the weekdays as the area I'm staying at is prone to break ins. Also please let me know what you guys want to see in the front page. Im hesitant to put the "plug and play" installation as it is included in the manual but I'll add it when i get home

I've been using a generic dash cam for a few years now, I've just left it there since I park in a private garage.
Dash cams are basically supposed to be install it and leave it. Best case scenario is that you never need to take out the memory card, worse case scenario, well, we all know what that is!

Considering getting this for a track camera.

hey everyone,
I have some relevant information for an installation group buy for dash cams in the GTA. I have spoken to a company about doing a professional installation for this dash cam and they are able to do it for $25 as a group buy. I have created a thread here:
http://forums.redflagdeals.com/gta-d...p-buy-1148215/
Read up on it if your interested!
Thank you!

How difficult is it to remove the double sided tape from the windshield when I need to move the dash cam to a new car?
I wish it has an option of a suction cup mount.

VERY difficult. This 3M double-sided tape is tough! I tried to pull the mount off my windshield to reposition it and I could feel the mount flexing as I was pulling. I had to use a putty knife to scrap the tape off the window.
If you plan on moving the camera, maybe try Velcro instead of the double-sided tape it comes with. Even then, it might not be a very good idea to move the mount a lot because of the way it's designed. Pulling on the round part puts a lot of stress on the part that connects the round and flat sections, and I could see it breaking.

I was considering using the 3M velcro tape. Strong enough to adhere to the windshield and camera base, and the velcro should make it easy enough to detach or readjust as needed.

This is what I would like to know too. Since where I park is facing my motorcycle, I want to use this camera's motion detector to pick up people sitting on my bike (seems to happen a lot. I already caught 2 people doing this!) and also to at least have video evidence if it was ever stolen.
I'm guessing it's your car battery that will ultimately determine how long it can stay in the motion detection mode. But I wouldn't mind know what the average life span is like. Looking at the OP's post and clicking on the Power Magic install, there's an option for up to 72 hrs if you turn on the timer... That's more than enough for my needs, I rarely go 24 hrs from when using my car.
I think picking up a Power Magic is critical with this camera, it you intend to leave it in your car at all times.

I keep going over my mind whether I need to really hard-wire it or get the Power Magic. How often do I reverse park vs front-in park? The parking mode is only really good if you reverse park all the time and only if the person hits your car from the front. Any other hit (sides or back) will be out of view. Using the video as evidence afterwards without the actual hit on it would be hard to use, as it would be an assumption (though a damned good one).
For you and the bike though, definitely worth it.

How hard is it to hardwire this unit through the ignition panel? Is there any reputable installers in Vancouver area?
Thanks

Are you looking to hard-wire it to the ignition because you just want it to run when the car is on?

That and to keep it neatly tucked. Having the wire run out in plain sight is an invitation to a breakin. Also it will keep it on to catch parked hit and run drivers?

The camera barely uses any power... and if you're not away from your car that long then save yourself that money and just hardwire it...
If people want to know how long a car battery can power the camera? Do the math. Find out the mA draw of the unit, find out the mAh of the car battery and do the math from when the car battery is full.

Battery Life
I think someone worked it out, estimating it can operate up to a week without completely draining a car battery. YMMV, depending on how many incidents it records and how much the Reserve Capacity is of your battery.
Hardwiring
The camera can be hardwired into the fusebox. If you are handy with electrical stuff, it should be pretty easy. You can source some cable with bare leads or cut up the included cigarette lighter cable. If you want to be fancy, you can hook up any 12V DC source.
Attaching to the Car
For those who want to be able to pop the mount on and off, here's a tip: if you are a Hwy 407 ETR subscriber, order some spare velcro strips. They're free for subscribers!
Theft of camera?
The beauty of the Blackvue is that it doesn't look like a camera or a GPS. You can disguise it with racing tape or hang ornaments off it. Make people think it's a weird air freshener. Be creative.
